What does the bible say about ghost and the paranormal

What is a Ghost?

The Webster’s Dictionary says a Ghost is : a disembodied soul; the soul of a dead person believed to be an inhabitant of the unseen world or to appear to the living in bodily likenesss and in the paranormal.

So what is the paranormal?

The Webster’s Dictionary says it is a term describing events that cannot be explained by science and nature. Those things that go against Nature.

What About ghost and those things that happen around us that cant be explained by science or that appear to go against nature.
First let me say that the Bible is full of examples of the paranormal.

Like when the sun stood still, the burning bush, the red sea dried up, all the miracles

I think about the virgin birth, the crucifixion, the veil being rent and The resurrection.
There are two events in the bible that I consider to be puzzling and definitely paranormal.

One is found in

Matt 27:52 KJV - And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

Matt 27:53 KJV - And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
Dead people walked around the city and appeared unto many. I think this was the captives that Jesus set free.

Another Story is found in

I Samuel 28

Saul’s was stressed, about an attack from the Philistines. Samuel had died, And Saul had put the mediums and the spiritists out of the land. But when Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid. So he prayed, and God did not answer Saul, at least not in the way saul wanted. Saul turns to a medium. (the Witch of Endor) sounds like a name from a movie. He asked the witch to bring up Samuel who was already diseased.

It appears that this witch calls up Samuel from the dead. The witch was so surprised an terrified, tell us that she never expected an actual appearance from Samuel.

And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground and bowed down. It appears that Samuel and Saul have a conversation and that Samuel truly came back from the dead. He was seen by both the medium and Saul.

This was not some manufactured appearance, where the witch acted like she could see Samuel and Saul could not. It wasn’t a some kind of voice that people think they hear in the dark of the night. It really seems like it was Samuel.

This seems a little crazy.

There are several different takes on this event.

One take is that the witch was seeking to fool Saul and it really never happened.

This take doesn’t make since, remember how the witch reacted to the event. She was terrified. Another take is that an evil spirit was acting as if he were Samuel. But I can’t see satan using this event for his benefit, what would he have gained from this. A third take is that the witch was just imagined Samuel coming back from the dead. But again that doesn’t make since, because of the way the witch reacted, she was terrified. One last take on this event was that it actually happened. Out of the possibilities this seems to be the most logical. This event is not so unlike the one found in Matthew 17 where Moses and Elijah came from the dead to appear with Jesus on the mount of transfiguration.

If this incident it what it appears to be and Samuel came back from the dead, then there are several things that need to be said.
This witch of En-dor did not have power to bring back Samuel from the dead. No one can cast a spell and bring someone back. God chose to bring Samuel back for a particular purpose. God wanted Saul to know that Judgment was coming.

Do you remember the story of the rich man found in Luke 16?

Before Jesus set the captives free, old testament saints would die and go to the paradise side of the grave. Now because of the work that Jesus did on the cross, we Die and either go straight to hell or for believers we enter into the presence of God in heaven.
There are many instances of the paranormal in the word of God.
Are ghosts real?

If a ghost could be defined as a “spirit being” then maybe the answer would be yes. I’ll explain that later.

But a ghost defined as “a disembodied soul or the soul of a dead person”

Then the answer is no.

The Bible is clear in it’s teaching that dead human beings do not remain on earth and “haunt” the living.
Hbr 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

That is what happens to a person’s soul after death—judgment.

The result of this judgment is either
Heaven for the believer-

2Cr 5:6 KJV - Therefore [we are] always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

2Cr 5:7 KJV - (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

2Cr 5:8 KJV - We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Or
Hell for the unbeliever-

Mat 25:46 KJV - And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
It’s one or the other Heaven or Hell. No one can be caught in-between.
If there are beings that act like or appear to be a ghost or some kind of paranormal activity, it absolutely cannot be dead human beings.
Remember when I asked

Are ghosts real?

If a ghost could be defined as a “spirit being” then maybe I would answer with a resounding yes.

There are spirit beings who can effect our world and even lives of people today. The Bible identifies these beings as angels and demons.
Angels are servants of God, their mission is, the mission of God for Good.
But Demons are beings that are evil and seek to deceive.
Mar 5:1 KJV - And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

Mar 5:2 KJV - And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

Mar 5:3 KJV - Who had [his] dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

Mar 5:4 KJV - Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any [man] tame him.

Mar 5:5 KJV - And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

Mar 5:6 KJV - But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

Mar 5:7 KJV - And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, [thou] Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

Mar 5:8 KJV - For he said unto him, Come out of the man, [thou] unclean spirit.

Mar 5:9 KJV - And he asked him, What [is] thy name? And he answered, saying, My name [is] Legion: for we are many.

Mar 5:10 KJV - And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

Mar 5:11 KJV - Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

Mar 5:12 KJV - And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

Mar 5:13 KJV - And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

Mar 5:14 KJV - And they that fed the swine fled, and told [it] in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

Mar 5:15 KJV - And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

Mar 5:16 KJV - And they that saw [it] told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and [also] concerning the swine.

Mar 5:17 KJV - And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

Mar 5:18 KJV - And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

Mar 5:19 KJV - Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

Mar 5:20 KJV - And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all [men] did marvel.

If you will look closely at this account you’ll find out that what happened was a man was possessed with a legion of demons. That man terrorized the people almost like a haunting in a graveyard. Even though there was no mention of a ghost,

Demons will absolutely do what ever they can to deceive and destroy lives. Demons along with Satan are all about leading people astray. Today I Believe that demonic activity is to blame for these so called haunting and ghostly presence.
2Cr 11:13 KJV - For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

2Cr 11:14 KJV - And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

2Cr 11:15 KJV - Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Appearing as a “ghost” or a deceased human being seems to be within the capabilities of a demon.

Let’s take a look at that.
Demon possession can be scary

Mat 8:28 KJV - And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
Demons want to possess

Mat 8:31 KJV - So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.

Mat 8:33 KJV - And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.

Mar 5:12 KJV - And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

Luk 8:27 KJV - And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in [any] house, but in the tombs.

Luk 8:30 KJV - And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.

Luk 8:33 KJV - Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.

Luk 8:35 KJV - Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

Luk 8:36 KJV - They also which saw [it] told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.

Luk 8:38 KJV - Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,

Mar 5:18 KJV - And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

Mar 5:13 KJV - And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
Demons can render a man physical strength and can physically hurt or move someone or something.

Luk 8:29 KJV - (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)

Luk 9:42 KJV - And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare [him]. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

Act 19:13 KJV - Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

Act 19:16 KJV - And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

You can hear demons speak through people

Luk 4:33 KJV - And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

Luk 4:35 KJV - And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
What ever you want to call it, ghost encounter, a presence, a poltergeist, a haunting or paranormal activity, you can know that it is the work of evil spirits. It’s not the deceased caught in the middle between heaven and hell. It is the work of demons.

There are Only two spirits- the spirit of God and the Spirit of the antichrist

1Jo 4:3 KJV - And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
We should try the spirits

1Jo 4:1 KJV - Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

1Jo 4:3 KJV - And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Many folks have come across something that they cannot explain. They are always amazed and dazzled by what they have seen or heard. The normal tendency is to assume that it must be of God. But John says to try, test or examine the spirits see if they are from God or from some other spirit.

People are increasingly believing lies and being deceived. One reason is because

1. They do not know the bible.

2. They are adrenaline junkies.

Scary movies, haunted houses, Halloween parties,

There are Movies and TV shows about ghost and the paranormal all over the place.

People claim to be “ghost-hunters,” They will come in and let you know if you house is haunted.
The word of God has everything you and I need to know, about the spirit realm. By Getting in the word and having serious Bible study you can know the truth.
But today there are many who are being led astray following after an ungodly interest in the spirit world. Do you think that the demons and Lucifer himself are thrilled about the deception? You know it.
