Context

---------------------------------------------

Background

Ramazan Valiyev is a school principal who has been leading the school located in the center of Ganja for 3 years. Despite being newly appointed, he managed to create a productive atmosphere within the school where transparency has become number one priority after the former director was prosecuted for corruption. He managed to bring new dynamism to the school and his ideas were supported by the majority of teachers who perceived him as their leader, worth to trust. However, Mr.Valiyev, who is new in the field, is also a young man of 40 who might not have enough experience when it comes to bringing solutions to new problems creating a dilemma for the principal.

Amir Mirsultanov, a geography teacher who has been teaching for more than 12 years in the school, is admired by the students for his kind and honest personality. Not only does he teach the lesson with passion and make it interesting for the students, but also he acts like a life coach for them. Mr.Mirsultanov guides students in their academic life and takes care of their personal problems as well. Each time after the lesson, students gather around him to discuss some issues and to get advice.

Present Situation

Mr Mirsultanov’s great, insightful and noble teaching in each class ability is clearly known by everyone at school. Although his students and their parents are satisfied with his knowledge and behaviour, there is only one student who is a son of a famous businessman. Fikrat is dissatisfied, always guesses that the teacher doesn’t pay attention, and applies discrimination to him in each lesson. For this reason, he decided to complain to the school principal about Mr Mirsulatov. The principal’s preference for a transformational leadership type has allowed listening to all students’ and teachers’ opinions respectfully. During the meeting, the student has reflected his thoughts in an exaggerated version. He has pretended to behave like such a naive and calm character. However, Ramazan Valiyev has a strong and foreseeable view of people from the psychological and pedagogical aspects. Therefore, he hasn’t prefered to believe in his suppositions firstly and told him to clarify this situation.

After the meeting, Fikrat told all happenings and delusions to his parents. The next day, his mother comes to school to define the problem and strictly demands to punish the teacher. In this case, Mr Ramazan calls Mr Amir to hear the truth from him. He aims to face the teacher and parent at the same time. Fikrat’s mother tries to humiliate the quite experienced, well-educated teacher - Mr Amir. His patient personality helps him to be calm and strong. Then he said: “ I treat every student equally because all of them are valuable to me, and the discriminant will never be met. If we approach the educational side, I can say Fikrat is not good at my subject, he usually ignores it. He can be better at trying to study in-depth. And If we want to approach the behavioural aspect, I am completely disappointed with his speech and etiquette. He speaks with his classmates rudely. Moreover, he hinders his mates from studying comfortably.” At that moment, the parent suddenly interrupts, commands Mr Amir to give a lot of certificates and adds that her child fears the teacher and doesn’t like his method.
Meanwhile, Mr Ramazan is listening to both of them attentively, analyzing them in his mind in detail as well. He wants to protect transparency and to apply justice. The principal defends the teacher with the reality-based compliments by pedagogical staff, students, and parents. He counts international teaching certificates, accomplishments of twelve years experience, but the parent asked to research that again.
Mr Ramazan is really in a dilemma. The first and best way to be more aware is to access both theoretical and practical information through observing and analyzing. So he decided to get information from Mr Amir colleagues, who are also teachers of Fikrat. Most teachers' thoughts are common- problematic student behaviour. His cultural issues, distracting other students and instructors, reducing classmates' participation occurs almost in each class.
Furthermore, other students' views are highly crucial to the principal. In this sense, the questionnaire of all his classmates shows that he always wishes everyone to care about him. He wants to be in the centre of alls’ minds.
