SARBAND
1986’da Vladimir Ivanoff taraf›ndan kurulan Sarband, Avrupa müzi¤i
ile ‹slam ve Yahudi müzik kültürleri aras›nda mümkün olabilecek
bütün ba¤lant›lar› ortaya koyma çabas› içindedir. Grubun ad› Farsça
ve Arapça’dan geliyor ve bir müzik süiti içinde iki bölümün
do¤açlama bileflimine iflaret ediyor. Grup, fiark ile Garp aras›ndaki
karfl›l›kl› iliflkiyi yüceltirken, enstrümanlar›n renkli paleti, vokal ve
enstrümantal teknikler ve do¤açlama sanat›ndan yararlan›yor. Son
birkaç y›lda Sarband, çok say›da uluslararas› festivalde sahneye ç›kt›
ve erken müzikten caza, dünya müzi¤ine ve avangarda kadar varan
bir yelpaze sundu.
Founded by Vladimir Ivanoff in 1986, Sarband endeavors to show
all possible connections between European music, Islamic and
Jewish music culture. The group’s name stems from Persian and
Arabic, and denotes to an improvised coupling of two parts within a
musical suite. The ensemble celebrates the symbiotic relationship
between the Orient and the Occident, drawing upon the colorful
palette of instruments, vocal and instrumental techniques and the
art of improvisation. Over the past few years Sarband has
performed at numerous international festivals - from early music to
jazz, world music, and avant-garde.

öldü. Frans›z-Felemenk kökenli Amerikal› bir yönetmendir.
Amerika’ya yerleflmeden önce Paris’te güzel sanatlar e¤itimi gördü.
Tiyatroda dekor tasar›mc›s› olarak çal›flt›ktan sonra, 1908’den
itibaren yazmaya ve filmler için dekorlar tasarlamaya bafllad›. 1914’te
yönetmenli¤e bafllad›, çeflitli janrlarda çal›flt›ktan sonra 1920’li
y›llarda çok say›da etkileyici romantik dram ile sanat›n›n doru¤una
ulaflt›: Pola Negri ile The Cheat (yap›mc›l›¤›n› da üstlendi); 1926’da
fieyhin O¤lu ve Ronald Colman ile The Night of Love. 1930’lardan
kayda de¤er filmleri aras›nda Colman komedileri Raffles ile The Devil
to Pay; Greta Garbo dramlar› Mata Hari ve As You Desire Me de
vard›r. Meslek hayat› otuz befl y›l› aflk›n bir süreyi bulan Fitzmaurice,
yönetti¤i filmlerden baz›lar›nda oynam›flt›r da.
Born on February 13, 1885 in Paris, and died on June 13, 1940 in
Hollywood. He is an American director of French-Dutch ancestry.
He studied fine arts in Paris before resettling in America, and after
working in theater as a set designer began writing and designing
sets for films in 1908. A director by 1914, he worked in a range of
genres before hitting his stride in the ‘20s with several handsome
romantic dramas: The Cheat with Pola Negri (which he also
produced); The Son of the Sheik, in 1926; and The Night of Love
with Ronald Colman. His notable films of the ‘30s include the
Colman comedies Raffles and The Devil to Pay; the Greta Garbo
dramas Mata Hari and As You Desire Me. His career lasted more
than thirty-five years during which he also had acted in some of the
films he directed.

(1921), gerçek erotizmi olmayan, incelikten uzak bir
melodramd›. Ama Valentino’nun egzotik cazibesi
seyircileri esir etti. Valentino’nun otuz bir yafl›ndayken
oynad›¤› son filmi olan fieyhin O¤lu ise yazar Hull’un
devam kitab› üzerine kuruluydu ama, ikiz o¤ullar› tek bir
karakterde, Ahmed’de birlefltirmiflti. Valentino, kendi
önerisiyle iki rolü birden üstlenmiflti: Hem biraz daha
yafl›n› bafl›n› alm›fl as›l fleyh hem de bir haydutun k›z›
olan, Vilma Banky’nin oynad›¤› peçeli güzel Yasmin’e
arzu duyan o¤lu Ahmed. Prens, k›z›n ihaneti yüzünden
öfkeye kap›larak onu kaç›r›r, goblenlerle süslenmifl

Valentino, the exotic lover, the king of romance and
adventure in distant lands, the mysterious heartbreaker.
Rudolph Valentino was born in Italy and worked his
way through Europe before landing in New York in
1913. He moved into show business with the help of
older women, often exchanging amorous nights for the
proper introductions. The Sheik (1921), the film that
made Valentino a star, based on a cheesy romance
novel by Edith M. Hull, is an unrefined melodrama
without any real eroticism. Yet Valentino’s exotic
charms captivated audiences. The Son of the Sheik was
Valentino’s final film, at the age of 31, based on author
Hull’s own sequel, “Sons of the Sheik”, but it combined
twin sons into one character, Ahmed. On his own
suggestion, Valentino plays dual roles, as the older,
original sheik, and his son Ahmed, who lusts after the
veiled and jeweled beauty of Yasmin, the daughter of a
bandit, played seductively by Vilma Banky. Enraged by
her betrayal, the prince kidnaps, and takes her by force
in his tapestry-decorated desert tent, in soft focus.
This film is the ultimate love story, and the pop icon of
the silent film age.
