Nim
Nim is a very old game played by people in many countries. Play
Nim with a friend. It’s easy! 
The object of the game is to get your opponent to write an X in the last space.
Here’s how to play:
1.
Take turns.
2.
Each player can write either one, two, or three X’s in any one row on a sin-
gle turn.
3.
Take turns until only one empty space is left.
4.
The player who writes an X in the last space
loses.
A sample game of Nim might look like this: 
Use the board to play the game. Make copies of the
board so you can play more than once. After you play
a few times, see if you can figure out a strategy for
winning.

The Egyptians developed a system of writing, called hieroglyphics,
that used picture symbols to represent numbers and objects. Here
are the hieroglyphs for the numbers 1–1,000:
