The raccoon is a medium sized bear-like animal. Some people might wonder why raccoons
live in towns. But the raccoons were there first before people. Cities grow, houses move into
woods and fields where once wild animals lived. As a result, some kinds of animals move out.
But raccoons stayed. They can live near people. People don’t always like having raccoons as
neighbours. Because they can carry dangerous diseases. Raccoons sleep most of the day. They
sleep on tree branches. At night, they come out in search of food. Dark fur around their eyes
gives raccoons the nickname of “ m asked b a n d its” . Garbage is a large part of the raccoon’s diet.
People often try to make their garbage cans hard to open for raccoons but they usually don’t
succeed,
because raccoons are clever animals. In the woods,
they usually live in trees, high above
the ground. In towns, however, trees are rare. When people discover a raccoon in their house,
they usually want to get rid of it. This information would be useful for people who wanted to
know more about raccoons.

Dear Manager,
You know that I work for your company as a guide. It’s my job to make everything go well
for the tourists. But something unpleasant happened last weekend. Last Saturday I met a group
of tourists at the airport. I normally take our tourists to “ The Sheraton Hotel”, but this time it
was hosting an international conference. So I took them to another hotel “ The Navruz Hotel”.
I hadn’t used the service of “ The Navruz Hotel” before and didn’t quite know what kind of
service they had. When we arrived at the reception, they said the hotel was full and didn’t
have any free room. Although I had booked rooms beforehand, the
manager said that somebody
phoned a day before and said that we wouldn’t need the rooms. The manager insisted it was I
who made that phone call. I was very annoyed but the manager phoned other hotels and found
rooms but in four different hotels. I don’t know who made that phone call. I hope you will
understand and won’t blame me for what happened that day.
Sincerely, Salima Anvarovna.
