Running Time: 1 hour 45 minutes

Mad Hot Ballroom is a documentary which offers an inside look at this event, as well as the teachers and students who take part, with a particular emphasis on three schools: P.S. 112, in a Bensonhurst neighborhood dominated by Italian and Asian families; P.S. 150, located in the wealthy and fashionable Tribeca district; and P.S. 115, a Washington Heights school where the vast majority of families live below the poverty line. Filmmaker Marilyn Agrelo follows the young dancers as they gain confidence and skill and grow into "little ladies and gentlemen," as one teacher puts it, while also examining how cultural differences impact the competition for some students and how the boys and girls feel about the opposite sex as they begin to make friends with one another. Full Synopsis:

One of the Catholic Church's most infamous institutions is the focus of this controversial independent feature from Scottish actor and erstwhile director Peter Mullan. Set in 1964, The Magdalene Sisters hones in on the Magdalene convent, a place where purportedly wayward young women have been sent by their families for reform. Many of the girls are locked up in the institution for questionable "sins," and the movie presents several of them as case studies: Margaret (Anne-Marie Duff), who is sent away after being sexually assaulted by a cousin at a wedding; Rose (Dorothy Duffy) and Crispina (Eileen Walsh), who are both unwed mothers; and Bernadette (Nora-Jane Noone), whose licentiousness has raised the ire of her former orphanage. It soon becomes clear that the reformatory is more of a manual-labor prison, however, as their girls are forced to work long hours and endure endless physical humiliation and abuse at the hands of the head nun, Sister Bridget (Geraldine McEwan). As their degradation at the hands of the convent's administrators increases, each girl plots her escape, but each finds that she's never far enough from the sisters' all-encompassing reach. MAN ON FIRE
Based on the 1980 novel written pseudonymously by an "A.J. Quinnell," "Man on Fire" tells the story of a boozy ex-special forces assassin named Creasy (Denzel Washington) whose slow, self-destructive descent into the bottle is temporarily arrested when his old friend Rayburn (Christopher Walken) arranges for him to be hired as a bodyguard. Kidnappings are epidemic in Mexico City (the book was situated in Italy) and wealthy businessman Samuel Ramos (Marc Anthony) and his American wife Lisa (Radha Mitchell) are fearful that their nine-year-old daughter Pita (Dakota Fanning) may be targeted. For Creasy, it's simply a job. But Pita wants a friend. And for the better part of an hour, the little girl pouts and prods, making every effort to melt Creasy's cold, hardened heart and bring out the human being inside the killer. In the end, she succeeds, but it's a short-lived success. Kidnappers--including a pair of crooked cops--finally make their move and snatch little Pita amid a hail of bullets. Creasy takes out the dirty cops, but collapses with a chestful of lead.

From here, the picture follows the more routine revenge genre beats, with a recovered Creasy reverting to his old, lethal self, a one-man vigilante army who will stop at nothing to see any and all responsible parties brought down and killed in the most painful, creative and sadistic fashion imaginable.
