These are the descendents of Simon (or Symond) Hovngton who lived in Snainton in the mid 1500s. This line can be traced to the present day, though no longer in Brompton. It is likely that most modern Hovingtons (apart from adoptions) are descended from this line. For space reasons this branch of the family is divided into several sections Family Group #1a, 1b, 1c etc.

#1 Simon Hovington Puchased land in Snainton, Yorkshire in 1593. Sold land in Snainton to Richard Hovington (See: Yorkshire family group #3), in 1598. Died 1617.

The Hovington family went extinct in the Brompton by Sawdon area in the 1700s. A branch of the family descended from William son of Eustace Hovington ( Yorkshire family group #1a) continued in the Cloughton area (and in the neighbouring parishes of Scarborough, Scalby, Seamer and Burniston).
