LITURGICAL COLOURS
With the completion of the Easter Season and
then the Solemnities of the Holy Trinity and
Corpus Christi, the Church’s Liturgical Season
returns to the Sundays and Weekdays in
Ordinary Time.
The Liturgical Colour for this season is Green.
With regards to Liturgical Colours I quote from
the resource “Universalis”
“In the earliest centuries all vestments were
white-the white of baptismal purity and of the
robes worn by the armies of the redeemed in the
Apocalypse, washed white in the blood of the
Lamb. White is the colour of heaven. Liturgically,
it is used to celebrate feasts of the Lord,
Christmas and Easter, the great seasons of the
Lord and the saints. As the Church grew secure
enough to be able to plan her liturgy, she began
to use colour so that our sense of sight could
deepen our experience of the mysteries of
salvation, just as incense recruits our sense of
smell and music that of hearing. Over the
centuries various schemes of colour for feasts
and season were worked out, and it is only as
late as the 19
th
century that they were
harmonized into their present form.”
Now in Ordinary Time the colour is Green, a
sign of life in nature and as such it represents
growth, life and hope. It symbolizes the graces
that draw people into the life of God.
THE HOLY FATHER’S APPEAL
At Masses in Mount Gambier this weekend there
will be a leaving collection for the Holy Father’s
Appeal. Money raised will go towards the
worldwide development work and works of
charity conducted by our Holy Father, Pope
Francis. In Millicent, this Sunday there will be a
leaving collection for the St Vincent de Paul’s
Winter Appeal and the Holy Father’s Appeal will
be next weekend.
WELCOME TO OUR PARISHES
This weekend Mgr Robert Egar will be
celebrating Masses for us in Mount Gambier and
Millicent. Please make him welcome and give
him your support. I’ll be celebrating Masses in
Bordertown, Keith and Kingston. Just a reminder
of the fortnightly Youth Mass at St Paul’s this
Sunday night at 5pm.
God bless,
Fr Dean Marin

Psalm Response:
Lord, in your great love, answer me.
Gospel Acclamation:
Alleluia, alleluia!
The Spirit of Truth will bear witness
to me, says the Lord, and you also will be my
witnesses. Alleluia!
TODAY’S GOSPEL: Matthew 10:26-33
Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: 'Do not be
afraid. For everything that is now covered will be
uncovered, and everything now hidden will be
made clear. What I say to you in the dark, tell in
the daylight; what you hear in whispers, proclaim
from the house-tops.
'Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but
cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can
destroy both body and soul in hell. Can you not
buy two sparrows for a penny? And yet not one
falls to the ground without your Father knowing.
Why, every hair on your head has been counted.
So there is no need to be afraid; you are worth
more than hundreds of sparrows.
'So if anyone declares himself for me in the
presence of men, I will declare myself for him in
the presence of my Father in heaven. But the one
who disowns me in the presence of men, I will
disown in the presence of my Father in heaven.'
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

TENISON WOODS COLLEGE NEWS
On Wednesday last week the Year 8’s held their
annual retreat day at Casadio Park. The focus of
the day was the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and this
was closely connected with the themes from
World Refugee Week which was also celebrated
last week. Sr Elizabeth Young RSM attended the
day as a guest speaker and group leader. Sr
Elizabeth shared many stories from her ministry
as a Sister of Mercy and some of the ways she
sees the Fruits of the Spirit reflected in the
people she meets in the detention centres.
Students and staff had a wonderful day and look
forward to continuing some of the conversations
from the day in their RE lessons back at TWC.
Timor Leste fundraisers
The 2017 Timor Immersion participants would
like to sincerely thank all parishioners who
supported the Soup fundraiser and the High Tea
last weekend. The events combined raised over
$2000. They are sincerely grateful for the
support from the parish, both financially as well
as those who passed on their blessings and best
wishes. We all look forward to hearing from the
group on their return from Timor Leste.

ST ANTHONY’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS
THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Should there be any
families who are Catholic, and have yet to have
children baptised, please see me at the school.
It is never too late! You are very welcome to come
and discuss the process and we will make a time to
meet with either Fr Dean or Fr Michael.
From time to time, there are families whose children
are baptised in another faith tradition and who would
like to be formally initiated into the Catholic Church.
If that is something you have wondered about, again,
please see me at the school when it suits you.
Families may come along and join us at Mass at 9.00
a.m. Sunday morning. Marcus will be there. This
Sunday, I am away so will be an apology. Thank you.
ST ANTHONY RELIC
During this past week, a relic of St Anthony of Padua
has been in Adelaide, at St Joseph’s Payneham. The
relic is on tour nationally: it is a fragment of a rib
bone which is encased in a reliquary: This relic travels
the world and represents a connection of love between
the person who venerates it and the life of St Anthony.
Perhaps, one day, it will visit Millicent!

A Survey for Young People
In 2018, Pope Francis will hold a Synod of Bishops on

their voices by completing a survey.

Adults, which advertises this survey and explains how
to access it, can be found at:
