Big data refers to the large, diverse sets of information that grow at ever-increasing rates. It encompasses the volume of information, the velocity or speed at which it is created and collected, and the variety or scope of the data points being covered (known as the "three v's" of big data). Big data often comes from data mining and arrives in multiple formats.
Types of Big Data
Behind Big Data, there are three types of data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
-Structured data is fixed-format and frequently numeric in nature.
-Unstructured data is information that is unorganized and does not fall into a predetermined format
-Semi-structured data can contain both the forms of data such as web server logs or data
How does Big Data work?
The main idea behind Big Data is that the more you know about anything, the more you can gain insights and make a decision or find a solution. In most cases this process is completely automated
The need to handle so much data requires a really stable and well-structured infrastructure. All the processes should be considered according to the capacity of the system. You should know how Big Data works and the three main movements behind it.
Big Data is always collected from many sources and as we are speaking for enormous loads of information, new strategies and technologies to handle it need to be discovered. You will have to receive the data, process it and format it in the right form that your business needs and that your customers can understand
1. Integration
You will need a place to store information. Your storage solution can be in the cloud, on-premises, or both. You can also choose in what form your data will be stored, so you can have it available in real-time on-demand. This is why more and more people are choosing a cloud solution for storage because it supports your current compute requirements.
2. Management
2. Analysis
Okay, you have the data received and stored, but you need to analyze it so you can use it. Do whatever you want and need with it – put it to work, because you did big investments to have this infrastructure set up, so you need to use it.
How Is Big Data Used? Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest one in the Solar System—it’s only a bit larger than our Moon. The planet’s name has nothing to do with the liquid metal since it was named after the Roman messenger god, Mercury
Big data analytics is used in nearly every industry to identify patterns and trends, answer questions, gain insights into customers and tackle complex problems.
Though the large-scale nature of big data can be overwhelming, this amount of data provides a heap of information for professionals to utilize to their advantage. Big data sets can be mined to deduce patterns about their original sources, creating insights for improving business efficiency or predicting future business outcomes.
Some notable areas where big data provides benefits include:
Cost optimization
Customer retention
