House Guests
There once was a chicken, a duck, and a goose. The three animals were the best of friends. They did
everything together.
One morning, Duck awoke in a very good mood. He decided to invite his friends Chicken and Goose
over for lunch. He called his friends and extended the invitation. They both accepted. Then Duck
began making a delicious lunch. He got fresh grain from the bin and berries from the patch. He was
determined to make this a lunch that would not soon be forgotten.
When the clock struck 12, the doorbell rang. Duck quickly ran to the door to greet his guests. He
invited Chicken and Goose in with a flourish. Before long, lunch was served, and Duck was pleased
with the response. Chicken and Goose loved the food. Each and every bite was delicious. When the
meal was finished, all three animals sat down to visit on the back porch.
As time went by, Duck began to yawn. He was tired. He had spent his whole morning making lunch
and now he was ready for his nap. He dropped hint after hint, but the two would not leave.
Finally, Duck got up and went inside. He locked the door. He left his guests outside alone. Surprised
Goose and Chicken got up and started for home.
“He sure is a rude host,” commented Chicken.
“He sure is,” said Goose, and they hurried on down the path.
