In the Name of the Azerba  ani Woman
The military formations of Armenia committed a terrible act of genocide against the Azerbaijanis 
in Khojali. In the May of 1992 they captured Shusha. 
One million people have lost their houses and become refugees as a result of this occupation. 
According to the initial, but incomplete information the economy of Azerbaijan has suffered 
material losses worth of over US$ 60 billion, except the moral-psychological damages. 
State Committee on the Problems of Women-was instituted in conformity with the decree of 
the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of January 14, 1998. In the period of its existence the 
Committee was engaged in purposeful activity for the solution of the problems in this sphere. But 
the necessity of solution of the problems of family and children together with those of the women 
conditioned the organization of a single state institution. In connection with it with the decree 
of the President of the Republic of the Azerbaijan of February 6, 2006, the State Committee on 
the Problems of Family, Women and Children was set up. This Committee is an organ of central 
executive power which implements into life the policy of the state concerning the problems of 
family, women and children, and regulation of the problems. 
The main plot of the epos has been expressed in 12 tales, or legends. It became known to 
science in the 19
th
 century in the form of manuscripts in two versions: the version of Dresden and 
that of Vatican. The Dresden version consists of a prologue and 12 tales, the Vatican version-of 
the same prologue and six tales. In 2000 the 1300
th
 anniversary of «Kitabi-Dede Korkut» was 
celebrated in Azerbaijan. 
The Mountainous Garabag - a region in the western part of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is 
under the occupation of the armed forces of Armenia. By the Mountainous Garabag very often the 
territory of the former Mountainous Garabag Autonomous Province of the Republic of Azerbaijan 
is meant. Its territory is 4,4 thousand km
2
.
The power of Azerbaijaniism lies also in the fact that it is able to combine the individual 
interests and inclinations with the policy of the state and to protect and maintain the national-
cultural identity of the people. 
Thus, the Armenians occupied probably the whole territory of the Mountainous Garabag. Their 
next step was the occupation of the district of Lachin which joined the Mountainous Garabag with 
Armenia. Then, in the April of 1993 Kelbejer, in the July-October of the same year the districts of 
Agdam, Fuzuli, Jabrail, Gubadi and Zangilan were occupied. All the occupied territories form 20 
per cent of the whole territory of Azerbaijan. 
«Kitabi-Dede Korkut» (The Book of My Grandfather Korkut, epos of the Oghuz Turks)- is the 
most ancient written monument of the folk literature of Azerbaijan (XI-XII centuries). According 
to the tradition the authorship of the legends, or tales is related to Dede Korrkut. The historians 
of the 15
th
 century Aybek ad-Davadri and Fazlullah Rashidaddin say that Dede Korkut lived in the 
lifetime of Prophet Mohammed and was sent to him as an envoy by the Turks. The prologue of the 
epos also notes that Dede Korkut lived in the lifetime of Prophet Mohammed.

Aliyeva Leyla Ilham gizi (1986). Daughter of Preident Ilham Aliyev. Representative of the 
Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Russia. President of the Azerbaijani club of Moscow State Institute 
of International Relations. Editor-in-chief of the magazine «Baku» published in Russia. Chair of 
the Organization of the Azerbaijani Youth of Russia. 
Aliyeva Mehriban Arif gizi (1964). Member of the parliament of Azerbaijan. Spouse of the 
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Goodwill ambassador of UNESCO and 
ISESCO. Chair of numerous charitable and cultural organizations. President of the Heydar Aliyev 
Foundation. A national survey held in Azerbaijan earned her the title of the Woman of the Year 
in 2005. She was awarded the Ruby Cross by the Patrons of the Century International Charitable 
Fund in 2005 for her philanthropic work and contribution to the development of friendship 
between Russia and Azerbaijan.

Aliyeva Zarifa  Aziz gizi (1923-1985). Doctor of Medicine Honoured Scientist of Azerbaijan. 
Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. She played an exclusive role in 
the development of ophthalmology in Azerbaijan. 
Ali-zade Firangiz Aliaga gizi (1947). Composer. People`s Artist of Azerbaijan. Awarded with 
the order «Shohrat».

of its members and voluntariness. It is headed by Sevil Aliyeva.

rq qadını» (Women of Orient)(magazine) - began to be published since 1923. Its publication 
was a remarkable event in the history of the women movement in Azerbaijan. In 1938 it was 
renamed to «the Azerbaijani Women».
