work experience

jan. 2008 – present

Yeezers Interactive, Orange, CA

Owner, Web Consultant
Duties:

  • Interface with clients to establish requirements and provide the best solution for their situation; create project plans and keep clients informed of timelines and statuses; succeed in meeting project goals for clients.

  • Create web sites, web applications, Flash ad units, Flash demos and HTML e-mails.

  • Administer databases, FTP servers and web servers.

  • Hire and manage subcontractors.

Project Highlights:

  • E-commerce web site at www.rogueperformanceproducts.com: this uses ASP.NET 3.5 in C#, SQL Server 2008, DHTML, CSS and JQuery to accomplish a custom shopping experience for motorsports parts and accessories. This includes catalog browsing by vehicle, seeing product details and related products, shopping carts and a checkout process integrated with a merchant account to accept credit cards. For members, login is enabled via .NET Membership and users can update their profile, maintain wish lists, save vehicles, view order history, see recent products viewed per vehicle, and check gift certificate balance. Administrative users can log in to update product info, view orders, update order status, view reports, and more in a custom-built CMS (content management system).

  • Online, login-based sales tool: this was used for negotiating loans/cash advances for small businesses. This used Flash CS3, ActionScript 3 (AS3), C#, AJAX, ASP.NET 3.5, SQL Server 2005, DHTML and CSS. The Flash interface included sliders to adjust amounts as the sales force negotiated their deals and real-time results as they used those sliders or changed values in other ways. This project also included two admin sites for content and user management at two different levels. The .NET Framework’s Membership components and others like GridViews were highly customized to get the right look and functionality. Screenshots are at tamara.yeezers.com/sites/cashready/.

  • Flash-based, streaming video player with bandwidth detection and full-screen feature: AS3, Flash Media Server 3.5, Flash Player 9 (Flash Player 10 would have made this easier, but the client was not ready for Flash Player 10 yet). Bandwidth was detected at load time and also monitored for changes during the user’s interaction and would change video quality automatically if needed. Notable about the full-screen feature is that the full-screen controls were different from the normal-sized player controls rather than just a bigger version of them as is done with most full-screen players.

jul. 2007 – present

Doner Advertising, Newport Beach, CA

Freelancer as Lead Web Programmer / Architect
Duties:

  • Produce and maintain Flash-based games, microsites, standard Flash ads, expandable rich media ads with video, landing pages and HTML e-mails.

  • Program Flash units and applications to run on Facebook and MySpace.

  • Suggest ways of improving processes and procedures.

  • Review and approve work done by other programmers.

  • Work closely with art directors, creative services director and account team.

Project Highlights:

For all projects with Doner, graphic design was done by someone else. I provided all animation (where applicable) and programming.

  • Contest application on Facebook: this included various Flash pieces, video, a contest entry form with optional image upload and a voting system that allowed Facebook users to vote once a day. On the back-end, there was the Facebook API, PHP, SQL Server and ASP.NET using C#, some of which was used for communication between the database and Flash via XML. A static demo version can be launched from the cover page at int.atdoner.com/FB/NB/.

  • Video and Flash-based microsite: this contained a quiz where the user saw a series of seven videos spoken in a fabricated language and had to guess what each scene is about. It also contained audio clips and TV ads and allowed users to post their score to their Facebook profile. This was programmed using ActionScript 3 (AS3), Flash CS4, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, the Facebook API and video editing in After Effects CS4. Object-oriented programming was used to control application flow, sound management, logical objects and reusable code.

  • Created a simple API for developers to consume Mazda’s web services for searching inventory, locating dealers and requesting quotes in AS2 and AS3.

  • Rich media ad unit for the Mazda3 on MySpace at yeezersinteractive.com/myspacetest/: this involved sampling music (which I cut with Adobe Soundbooth) using coverflow navigation, drag and drop to add songs to your playlist, drag and drop to sort the songs in your playlist, and downloading a zip file containing the songs from your playlist in order. The zip process needed a back-end web script to work. Since Doner did not own a server that could handle ad traffic and had no idea how many hits to expect, I worked with their IT team to find a hosting solution that would scale as needed and automatically and did not require a long-term contract. I wrote a PHP script to do the zip file creation and hosted that PHP script and MP3 files there. Also created reusable AS3 code for a custom scrollbar (needed one lighter than the built-in Flash component) and accordion navigation to read different panels of features for the Mazda3.
