At the time of the murders & for the next few years, a lot was written about the murders including some books. Other than memoirs of officers who worked on the case, which is valuable, little else was written until after WWI. 1929 the 1st full length book in English was ‘The Mystery of Jack the Ripper” by Leonard Matters. ...then ...fictional formats as Alfred Hitchcock's The Lodger. Dan Farson did a television show about the Ripper & uncovered a version of the McNaghten memoranda. 1960s, writing such as Tom Cullen’s Autumn of Terror & Robin Odell’s Jack the Ripper in Fact & Fiction. In 1970 a new theory was published in which the grandson of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence & Avondale, was accused of being the Ripper. Just like his nemesis in fiction, Sherlock Holmes, the 1970s saw Jack being either paired with someone famous or identified as being someone famous. It was a decade that featured ideas of criminal organization being responsible that were passed off & termed as “absurd conspiracy theories”. Some thought it was involving Freemasons, court physicians, & sinister figures from organizations. At this time Donald Rumbelow's The Complete Jack the Ripper was published, police files still existing were made available to all. The 1980s saw a tide of books published to cash in on the centennial of the Murders & lost evidence was returned anonymously to the police & Swanson's notes on Anderson's suspect were found. The FBI's Behavioral Sci. Unit did a criminal profile of the Ripper & aspects of the murders were discussed in various professional journals. In 1990s, 2 books have appeared that are musts for people who are interested in the Ripper murders. The Jack the Ripper A to Z by Paul Begg, Martin Fido, & Keith Skinner & Sugden's “The Complete History of Jack the Ripper” has replaced Rumbelow's authoritative source for information. A phony diary supposedly written by the Ripper was published & the authentic letter revealing the suspect Dr. Francis Tumblety has also been released. (Q?s: Rumbelo’s copy would be more to the bare truth then the newer versions that have gone through opportunity to taint the information – Camden / Campbell / Rumbelow / Tumblety / Trump – Skinner / Kinnear / Kmiec to Siwek – Bogdon / Dugdale - Carson – Farqueson – Fiona – Legg / Clegg / Biggerstaff / Briggs – Mullin – Dell – Swanso / Swayse / Manson / Souse – Sw anson / Anderson – Tumbleturn is a term used in the printing & publishing industry?)
