Architect Georgi Stoilov


Education

  • Born in 1929.

  • In 1954 graduated from the Moscow Architecture Institute.

  • In 1965 specialized urbanism in Paris.



Career

  • In 1965 became a founding member and first chairman of the Union of Architects in Bulgaria. Chairman of the Union in two periods: 1965-1968 and 1977-1990.

  • From 1967 to 1971 was mayor of Sofia.

  • From 1971 to 1973 was minister of Architecture and Public Works.

  • From 1967 to 1990 was deputy in the National Assembly.



Career

  • Founder and Secretary-General of the “Balkan Federation of Architects”.

  • Founder and president of the Global Centre for Technical Information and Urbanism to the Global Federation of Twin Cities of which he was vice president from 1970 to 1976.

  • Vice president of the International Council for Regional Economy.



Career

  • Organizer of two international conferences: “Man and his Urban Environment” in 1972 and “Planning and Urban Development” in 1978.

  • Initiator, organizer and chairman of the Organizing Committee and the International Jury of the World Biennial and Triennial of Architecture – “Interarch”; from 1971 to date.

  • Initiator, organizer and chairman of the Editorial Board of the International Almanac of Architecture and Society.



Career

  • President of the International Union of Architects from 1985 to 1987.

  • President of the International Academy of Architecture (IAA) from 1987 to date.

  • Founder of Academic Research Design Institute INTERPROEKT to the IAA.

  • Author of numerous books and major works in Bulgarian architecture.
