Kamil Kayode KAMALUDDEEN: 

Country Director 

 

Kamil  Kayode  Kamaluddeen  (Nigeria)  joined  the  UN  System  in  1998 

and  has  since  served  in  different  positions  with  UNDP  Nigeria  (1998  - 

2002), HDRO, New York (2000-2001), ILO Regional Office for Africa, 

Abidjan  (2002)  and  UNDP  Offices  in  Ghana  (2002-2005)  and  Liberia 

(2002-2008)  where  he  served  as  Economics  Advisor.  Most  recently,  he 

was  Country  Director,  UNDP  Ghana.  Mr.  Kamaluddeen  has  worked 

extensively  on  human  development,  democratic  governance  and  post-

conflict  policies  particularly  in  Africa.  He  has  provided  technical 

advisory  support  for  the  preparation  of  several  national  and  regional 

poverty  reduction  and  MDG-linked  development  strategies,  including 

Human Development Reports in Nigeria, Laos, Ghana, and Liberia; and 

the UNDP Corporate Policy on NHDR. Kamil supported the development of Liberia’s post-conflict needs 

assessment  (2003)  and  helped  develop  Liberia’s  Results-Focused  Transition  Framework  (2004)  and  its 

implementation strategy. Mr. Kamaluddeen has extensive experience in Africa as consultant, trainer and 

policy  advisor  in  the  field  of  development  and  public  sector  management  in  which  he  has  many 

publications  to  his  credit.  Prior  to  joining  the  UN  system,  Mr.  Kamaluddeen  has  had  a  distinguished 

academic  career  (1984–1998)  at  the  Usmanu  Danfodiyo  University  (UDU)  Sokoto,  Nigeria  where  he 

taught, conducted research and supervised academic theses in Economics and Management Studies before 

leaving as Head of Department in 1998. He was appointed Professor at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria in 

1999.  Mr.  Kamaluddeen  holds  a  PhD  in  Economics  from  UDU,  Sokoto,  Nigeria  and  a  Postgraduate 

Certificate in Cross-sector Partnerships from the University of Cambridge in 2007.
