Fermilab Proton Driver Workshop
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory
6 - 9 October 2004
FIRST BULLETIN
A very intense proton source has been identified by the Fermilab Long-Range Planning Committee as one of the leading candidates for a future facility at Fermilab. The Fermilab Director has requested a study to prepare for the next step, which will require documentation sufficient to establish mission need, as defined by the DOE CD-0 process.

The purpose of the workshop is to explore the potential physics program that could be executed at a 2 MW proton source at Fermilab. In particular, the physics that could be pursued using very intense primary beams of up to 2 MW at 8 GeV and of 2 MW at higher energies up to the maximum Fermilab Main Injector energy of 150 GeV. The presentations and discussion at the workshop will be used to both prepare and articulate the case for a new era of high intensity physics at Fermilab.

1. DATES
The workshop will begin at 8:30 am on Wednesday 6th October, and end at noon on Saturday 9th October.

2. LOCATION

The workshop will be located at Fermilab. Plenary Sessions will be in One West on the first floor of Wilson Hall.

3. REGISTRATION

Please register online in advance of the workshop. This will enable site passes etc to be prepared for you. Workshop badges etc can be picked up at the registration desk from 8:00 am Wednesday 6th October. The registration desk will be located outside of the Plenary Meeting Room (One West on the first floor of Wilson Hall). Note that there is no registration fee.

4. WEB PAGE

Workshop details can be found on the workshop web page:

5. WORKING GROUPS

If you wish to give a presentation in one of the working group sessions please contact the relevant conveners (listed for each group on the Workshop Webpage).

WG1: Neutrino Oscillations

WG2: Neutrino Interactions
WG3: Muons
WG4: Kaons and Pions
WG5: Antiprotons
WG6: Tevatron Collider

6. RECEPTION

There will be a reception on Wednesday 6th October, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, on the second floor crossover of Wilson Hall. All participants and companions are invited to attend.

7. E-MAIL, COMPUTER TERMINALS, and WIRELESS

An E-mail Center is set up on the Ground Floor North of Wilson Hall. There you will find PCs and a number of laptop connections. These facilities have been set up for use in checking your e-mail. Instructions for logging on to an account at your home institution and information about print queues are posted in the Center. This facility is open 24 hours a day. In addition, wireless connectivity is possible in most of Wilson Hall and in the User’s Center.
All laptops must be registered in order for them to work at Fermilab. You may register your laptop at: http://fndcg0.fnal.gov/docs.html

You can also check online to see if your system's wireless and UTP (hardwire) interfaces are registered in MISCOMP.

8. SITE ACCESS

Site access is straightforward if you have a currently valid visitor's ID from Fermilab or another U. S. Department of Energy institution. For those who do not already have an ID, due to heightened security, entry to the Site must be made through the Pine Street entrance on your first visit. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU HAVE REGISTERED FOR THE WORKSHOP BEFORE ARRIVING so that a one-day's visitor's pass will have been prepared for you and your companions and be available for pick up at the Guard Post on Pine Street. Please be prepared to show a government-issued photo ID (i.e., driver's license or passport) in order to pick up your pass.

At the workshop there will be a registration desk where you can pick up your Workshop name badge. This will serve as your pass and will be valid throughout the days of the Workshop. During this time, you may access the Site through either the Pine Street entrance or the Batavia Road entrance off Route 59. Your name badge should be carried and displayed at all times.

9. NON-U.S. CITIZEN REGISTRANTS AND COMPANIONS

Non-U.S. citizen registrants and companions are required to present their passports, I-94 cards, and/or Permanent Resident Alien Green Card to the Secretariat at the time of on-site registration so that copies may be made of these documents. If you have a valid Fermilab visitor's card or valid ID card from another U.S. Department of Energy facility or institution, you will be asked to show that card so that a copy may also be made of it. Please be sure to have the appropriate documents with you at the time you register on site for the Workshop.
