TRAVEL BOOK
SUMMARY
There are over 500 Safarnamehs on the history of Azerbai-
jan. However, unfortunately, very little part of them has been
translated into Azerbaijan. This translation is an important step in
eliminating this gap. Furthermore, a very successful work is se-
lected for the translation. Since, “Safarnameh” by Auqust Benton
is one of the most valuable resource and source dedicated to the
Fathali shah period of Gacars of the history of Azerbaijan and Iran
as a whole.
France by origin Avqust Benton (1782-1864) was a military.
He visited Iran in the 1807 through
the Ottoman Empire and par-
ticipated in the reform of Iran army. A.Benton, who had a strong
pen and describing talent, illustrated everything he saw and heard
in his travel and live in Iran in his book “Safarnameh”. Mansureh
Ettehadiyeh translated this book into Persian. The current trans-
lation is realized based on the mentioned publication.
In spite of all the virtues of “Safarnameh”, there have been
encountered mistakes related to some opinions and expressions in
the course of translation, which are explained and commented in
the section “The work “Travel Book” by Auqust Benton as an
historical source”.
