Almanya, 1942, Nazi iktidar›n›n en güçlü günleri.
Berlin’li bir iflçi ailesinin o¤lu olan on yedi yafl›ndaki
Friedrich, iyi bir boksçu olmas› sayesinde gelece¤in
Alman liderlerini yetifltiren bir Nazi siyasi okuluna,
NAPOLA’ya kabul edilir. Friedrich için NAPOLA,
hayat›n›n f›rsat›d›r, böylece kendi s›n›f›n›n
k›s›tlamalar›ndan kurtulacakt›r. Ailesinin itirazlar›na
ra¤men okula kaydolur. Burada genç bir ö¤retmen ona

için elinden bir fley gelmedi¤ini görür… Friedrich
rolündeki performans› için Max Riemelt, 2004 y›l›nda
Karlovy Vary Film Festivali’nde En ‹yi Erkek Oyuncu

Germany, 1942. The Naz› reg›me ›s at the peak of
›ts power.
17-year old Friedrich, from the Berlin
working-class district, is a fine boxer. Thanks to his
talent, he is accepted to an elite Nazi national political
school, the NAPOLA, which trains the future leaders of
the German Reich. Friedrich sees it as the chance of a
lifetime, an opportunity to free himself from the
restrictions of his class, and, against the wishes of his
parents, he enrolls in the school. There a young teacher
becomes his mentor, guiding him through the strict
scholastic regime. He befriends the sensitive Albrecht,
the son of a high-ranking Nazi official. Preferring to
train his mind rather than his body, Albrecht is critical
of the racist dogma that is being force-fed to the
students. Friedrich begins to see that there is no room
for anyone unwilling to follow the party line. After the
students are forced to participate in a nighttime
massacre, Albrecht writes an essay condemning the
barbarity. Friedrich knows that his friend is in trouble,
but he is powerless to change his mind… The young
Max Riemelt received the Best Actor Award at the
2004 Karlovy Vary Film Festival for his outstanding
performance as Friedrich, and the film was nominated
for the Crystal Globe. Napola also received the
prestigious German Film Award in 2003.

with a number of shorts The Wrong Trip (1996), Living Dead (1998)

television with the political thriller Das Phantom
(2000), which was extremely well received in
the press and brought him a series of awards,
including the Adolf-Grimme-Preis. His next
film, the teenage comedy Mädchen Mädchen!,
became a hit in Germany. He completed
The Dawn, a horror thriller in 2001.

aray›fl›n› samimi bir dille anlat›yor. Jed ve Chloe,
yirmili yafllar›nda, bafllar› dik, âfl›k bir çifttir. Her ikisi de
zihinsel engellidir. Jed, kaza sonucu Chloe’nin kedisinin

›nt›mate fa›ry tale drama sens›t›vely portrays the
naïve but uncomprom›s›ng search of a young man
for the purpose of l›fe.
Jed and Chloe are in their
early twenties, defiant, in love – and mentally
challenged. When Jed accidentally causes the death of
Chloe’s cat, Chloe retreats into silence and loses her
will to live. Convinced that there must be something
else in life to give it meaning, something that will help
revive Chloe’s spirit, Jed sets out to find it. Led to
believe that a scrap-metal dealer he sees on TV, Max,
knows the secret, Jed cautiously enters the eccentric
world of this solitary man, against the objections of his
TV obsessed parents. Yet, Max remains reticent –even
after Chloe falls into a coma and Jed begs him. In an
enlightening moment, Jed realizes that he, himself,
knows what he’s been looking for. Whispering the
magic words to Max, Jed saves him from a greater
tragedy. Now he must hurry to tell Chloe… The mental
conditions of Jed and Chloe are never commented on,
which makes the characters even more realistic.
However, a stronger observation is made on the impact
of television, in which the real handicap might be
perceived as the addiction of “normal” people to TV
who stare blankly at their receivers.

1954’te ‹zlanda’n›n Reykjavik kentinde do¤du. 1974’te ülkenin ilk
sinema kulübünü kurdu ve ‹zlanda’n›n ilk sinema dergisini ç›kard›.
1978’de ise Reykjavik Film Festivali’ni kurdu ve uzun süre
yöneticili¤ini üstlendi. 1981’de belgesel film yönetmeni olarak yeni
bir mesle¤e at›ld›. 1987’de ilk konulu uzun metraj filmi Beyaz
Balinalar’› gerçeklefltirdi.
Born in 1954 in Reykjavik, Iceland. In 1974 he
founded the country’s first cineclub, as well as
the first Icelandic cinema journal. He went on to
found the Reykjavik Film Festival in 1978 (and
is still its chairman). In 1981 he started a new
career as a documentary film director. ‹n 1987
he made his first fiction feature, White Whales.
