Jean-Marie Lehn is a French chemist. In 1987, he was a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development and use of molecules with structure-specific interactions. His work on cryptands laid the foundation for the active interdisciplinary area called supramolecular chemistry. He is the author of more than 900 scientific publications and 2 books. He is also the president of an organization helping chemists in developing countries. In 2011, he has received the ERC Advanced grant to work on the aspects of constitutional dynamic chemistry.
Claudie Haigneré is a French doctor, politician and former astronaut. Selected by the CNES in 1985, she trained in Star City Russia from 1992 for her first space mission on the Mir space station in 1996. In 1999, she joined the ESA and participated in a second mission on board of the ISS in 2001. Later, she became delegate minister for research (2002-2004) and then delegate minister for European Affairs (2004-2005) under the presidency of Jacques Chirac. She was the CEO of Universcience (2009-2015). From April 2015, she is a senior advisor to the ESA's Director.
Rolf-Dieter Heuer is the Chair of the European Commission’s Group of Chief Scientific Advisors. He is an experimental particle physicist and was CERN Director-General (2009-2015). He was the President of the German Physical Society (2016-2018), and is now its Vice-President. Prof. Heuer holds many Honorary Degrees from universities in Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada. He is Member of several Academies of Sciences in Europe. He received the Grand Cross 1st class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and was appointed Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur by the French Republic.
Michel Deneken is President of the University of Strasbourg. He holds a PhD in Catholic Theology from the University of Strasbourg, where he also became a lecturer in 1989. In 2001, he was appointed professor of Theology within the same university. From 2001 to 2009, he acted as Dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Strasbourg. After holding the position of First Vice-President (2007-2016), he was appointed President of the university in December 2016.
Sir Philip Campbell is Editor-in-Chief of Nature and the Nature publications. He holds a PhD in upper atmospheric physics. He has worked with the UK Office of Science and Innovation, the European Commission, and the US National Institutes of Health on issues relating to science and its impacts on society. He was awarded an Honorary Professorship by the Peking Union Medical College. He is a founding trustee and Chair of the research funding charity ‘MQ: transforming mental health’. He was awarded a knighthood for his services to science.
