1. Lecture more loudly with greater enthusiasm
2. Ask them questions to see if they are paying attention
3. Ask them to create examples of how a concept relates to their real lives
4. Tell them to talk amongst themselves to see if they have questions
5. Stop lecturing now and again and give them practice test questions
