About the authors
John Blenkinsopp is Reader in Management at Teesside University
Business School. His main research interests are in career development
and whistle-blowing and employee silence, though the underlying theme
of his research concerns how people make sense of work, and this has
led him to explore cross-cultural issues. The present paper was
inspired
by a translator‟s footnote in Primo Levi‟s
The Periodic Table
which drew
attention to two „untranslatable‟ puns.

Maryam Shademan Pajouh is a part-time Lecturer in International
Business, and a full-time PhD student, both at Teesside University
Business School. Her research examines the impact of globalisation on
Iran, in particular its effect on leadership and management. The very

a long-running
