L. angustifolia
of commerce (Naef and Morris, 1992), whose main components are
linalool (25–38 per cent) and linalyl acetate (25–45 per cent) shows some considerable differ-
ences between the subspecies
L. angustifolia
ssp.
pyrenaica
(DC.) (Garcia-Vallejo
et al
., 1989)
whose three main components were: linalool (20–66 per cent), borneol (6–32 per cent) and cam-
phor (2–14 per cent). The subspecies grows wild in the mountains in NE Spain on calcareous
soil at 700–1400 m altitude. This subspecies therefore would not be acceptable as normal
lavender oil.
