My friend and I always do our best to help one another. We discuss all our troubles and try to find the best decision inany situation. My friend is a very good, kind and clever boy (girl). We often spend our free time together. It is not veryeasy now, because both of us are very busy — we are going to enter institutes and have a lot of work to do.
My friend is going to become a doctor (a teacher, an engineer, a lawyer). Our future professions are different (the same) and the subjects we have to study are different (the same) too, but (and) we like to work together and to help oneanother in our study.
When we have some free time, we go for walks, read and discuss books, watch films, go to discos or play computergames. Playing computer games is our hobby. Both of us are fond of sport. We go in for swimming (tennis) and often goto the swimming pool (tennis court) together. We are football fans and we like to watch and discuss football matches onTV or to go to the stadium. I love my friend very much. I think he (she) is a true friend. Our friendship is very dear to meand I try to do my best to be a good friend too.

how you met
what kind of person he/she is
and explain why you like this close friend.
[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you're going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]
Model Answer 1:
Thank you for choosing this nice cue card topic for me as it will allow me to talk about a close friend of mine. His name is Matt Henry, and he has been one of my best friends since my early university years.
I met Matt about 9 years ago when I was a 1st-year university student. Since we both lived in the same dormitory and loved to practice table tennis in our sports hall, it was quite natural for us to have casual talks with each other once in a while.
But, I wouldn’t really call ourselves as “close” friends as yet at that time because we would hardly meet or talk to each other outside of our table tennis practice back then. But that slowly changed after several months when my scientific calculator suddenly stopped working, and Matt loaned his calculator to me for a few days. Our friendship grew even stronger and meaningful after a few more months when I taught him to play the guitar. By the way, Matt didn’t have any idea that I was able to play the guitar until he incidentally found me arguing about the guitar playing skills of a famous music band of my country with a couple of music enthusiasts of our dormitory. And, it was at that time, I realized that Matt was a passionate person about arts and culture, just as he still is today.
This close friend of mine is also a fun-loving person who still enjoys watching old movies on his television. But, above all, if I don’t tell how helpful of a person he really is, I will do a great injustice to his reputation as a close of mine.
Well, I like Matt, mainly because he loves life while hardly forgetting to share his fun with his friends around him. I also like this close friend of mine because he never hesitates to help others even if it means suffering his own loss. However, above all, what makes Matt so likeable is that he is always true to himself.
Sample Answer 2:
Thank you, sir/ madam, for this opportunity to let me talk about one of my closest friends. Without a doubt, that would be Martin, who is a very intimate friend of mine and with whom I spend a lot of time these days.
I know him for more than 8 years. I can still recall the day we first met and that was the very first day in our high school. He sat next to me and when our new class teacher gave us a task to complete, I could not find my pen that supposed to be in my bag. Noticing that I was searching my bag over and over again, Martin gave me one of his pens and I thanked him profoundly for saving me from an embarrassment, especially in front of a room full of new classmates! The next day we sat together again and this arrangement went on for a long. In the meantime, I found that he plays football, which I also did and he became a member of our high school debate club which was also an activity I was very passionate about. Within a few months, we became good friends and in a year we became very close.
Martin is a good person and a very helpful friend. The most remarkable characteristic of Martin is his leadership quality. He can quickly judge a situation, make an action plan and act promptly. Several times his prompt decision-making ability saved us from unexpected and difficult situations. Furthermore, he is very talented, well-read and well-travelled. The stories we heard from him about his tour in Europe were quite remarkable. Finally, he looks like an athlete and very strongly built. He runs for more than 2 miles each morning, a habit I wish I would take up! He is very kind, contrary to his heavy built, and soft-spoken.
Why do I like Martin? - Well, this is probably because he is a great person. He is one of my best friends and I like to spend time with him. We have some common interests and passions that make us close friends. I like the leadership quality he possesses and the way he often helps other selflessly. Finally, as a close friend, I know him very intensely. I would certify him to be a good human being, a humble person, a good and helpful friend. I hope our friendship lasts forever!
Sample Answer 3:
My recent graduation ceremony was outstanding. It appeared all the connections with my university mates and friends are finished after the ceremony. But we will maintain contact with each other, especially my link with Sabrina Nubia will remain forever.
I am the only daughter of my parents. They have always tried to do the best for me. With their inspiration and association, I got admitted to the Al- Azhar University in Cairo in Egypt. It was the very first day of my university when I met with Nubia. She is an extraordinary girl with an exceptional smiling face. We have a strong bond of friendship and in some cases, she is more than a friend. She turns a guide and mentor for me. I take important decisions with a discussion with Nubia. She also loves me much. In fact, we have a healthy friendship and it has been five years since we are maintaining this.
I met with Nubia in the classroom She was the only girl in the first few days with us in the class. Actually, not much of the students prefer Social Science as their subject. So, the number of students was less than the other departments. But after a week of the class, we got some other students. As a result, there were 37 students in our class and the number of female students was only 12 including me. But there was a close relationship with everyone inside the class. Besides, the teachers were also happy seeing the intimate bond among the students which is not found in the other classes. Since she lived near my residence, we used to move together for classes. Gradually, the bond between us grew stronger and we turned into best friends.
Nubia is a great person. She is extremely helpful in all matters, especially about academic assistance. She helped me and many other students in several ways. Whenever I missed any class for any reason or needed any guidance overtaking any notes, she came into my help. We had some group studies before the exam nights. Either she came to my place or I went to her and the next day moved for the exam. Furthermore, she is also a person who does not know how to turn angry. In fact, I have not seen such a cool person like her. She never got agitated or irritated with the negative attitudes of her surroundings. She dealt with the issues in a calm manner and finally, she became the winner.
I like Nubia for many reasons. She is a great friend of mine; in fact, she is my best friend. With her attractive smile, she wins the heart of people she meets. She never makes any false promise and tries to keep her commitment. I have never seen her being rude to anyone. In addition, she was from a noble family where she was taught all the manners. I loved her way of explanation. She is able to explain the most complicated thing in a simple manner. I think this is the quality that she inherited from her family. Overall, she is a loveable person for her amiable nature. Thereby, I like her the most. My Best Friend

Good friends are very rare in these fast-changing days. Old values have gone and new ones have not yet come. Still, one must have a friend one can confide in. I am lucky to have a number of friends. I love has one of them. Rahul is my best friend. I am really proud of him. He comes from a respectable family. His father is a landlord. We are class fellows. He is one of the best students in our class. He understands things quickly. He is bright and active. He is very punctual. He is obedient and respectful. He is soft-spoken. He is good at studying. He is not a bookworm. He reads extra books and is not confined to his textbooks. He takes interest in current affairs and often discusses with me important issues of the day. His approach is direct but impartial. He is tolerant, broadminded, and cooperative. He is fond of visiting restaurants and he takes his lunch outside on Sundays. He is also fond of seeing movies in the theater. Sometimes, he compels me to accompany him even though I have seen that particular movie. In fact, nobody is absolutely free from shortcomings. I allow him to enjoy such liberties and he does not cross the limit. He is a good player in badminton but he has never played any university match. He is always open to arguments. He is a well-mannered boy. I am really proud of him.

My Best Friend
Man is a social being and by instinct seeks the companionship of others. In our journey through life, we meet countless people, but with everyone, we do not make friends. This is because the essential condition of friendship is the affinity of the mind, tastes, and temperament. The few in who we discover the affinity, we make friends with and they carve out an abiding place in our hearts.
Rahul is my best friend. He is my classmate and neighbour. He has a lovable character, charming personality, and enviable manners. He is the son of a doctor. His mother is also a doctor and as such he has been brought up in a very healthy environment. He is the single child of his parents and hence the apple of their eye. Right from our early childhood, we played together and enjoyed each other’s company. I cannot recollect my first meeting with Rahul. He is most obedient to his parents and does not like to make them angry in any case.
Rahul is a gem in his studies. He is always first in our class. All the teachers are proud of his abilities as there is not a single question that he cannot answer or a single sum which he is not able to solve. He is a pastmaster of English language. He speaks very fluently and writes a good hand. He is a top-class debater and can speak on every topic with full confidence. He won many prizes in debates, competitions, and quiz programmes.
Rahul has one more quality worth the name. he has a high taste for music and singing. He knows by heart almost all the filmi and on-filmi songs. He does not like pop songs. Gazals are his favourite field. He can imitate the Gazals sung by Mahdi Hassan, Gulam Ali, and Jagjit Singh. He tried to write his own Gazals also and sing them.

Rahul is not without weakness. He does not take part in any games and sports. he never visits the playground. I have never seen him with a football, cricket bat, or hockey in his hand. He says it is not his field. He goes for long walks in the mornings but is not a sportsman. His ambition in life is to become a teacher. He wants to be a real teacher, a benefactor of students, and a storehouse of knowledge and ability and I am sure his ambition will be fulfilled someday.

I am proud of my friend and try to follow his footsteps in every field. I wish that our friendship should last forever because it is very difficult to find a real friend.

My Best Friend
Everyone needs a best friend in life. We need someone whom we can trust. A best friend should be there for us all the time, no matter what the situation may be. In my case, I have known my best friend for my entire life. My best friend happens to be my younger sister, Sunita. She is only thirteen months younger than I am, so we are very close. She has taught me how to trust people, how to help me with my problems, and how to open up as an individual. I always had a hard time learning how to trust people. The one person I found that I could trust with everything was my sister Sunita. I could always go to her and let her know if I had done something wrong. She would assure me that she would not tell anyone if I didn’t want her to. I knew all my secrets would be safe with her and that nobody would find out unless I told them.
Problem-solving was another thing that Sunita could help me with. Whenever I had a problem that I couldn’t quite work out myself, I went to her. Whether it had to do with boys, school work, sports, or even just things running through my mind, she always solved my problems. It’s like she knew all the answers to all my questions. She is a wonderful person to go to if you need advice or some kind of guidance in life. I was always a shy individual. I hardly ever spoke up or let myself be recognized. This is where my sister came and let me out of my shell. She made me go up to random people and just strike up a conversation with them. Sometimes that was hard and a little embarrassing, but in the end it ended up helping me. She showed me how to be more outgoing and to voice my opinion when it was necessary. When I become comfortable around a group of people, I usually tend to talk a lot more. I start up conversations and make many jokes. I like to see people have a good time, and when others are laughing, I usually am too. As a result of this, I became more social in school and seem to have a more enjoyable time at my job. Being a more outgoing person helped me to feel better about myself and more confident when I was around other people. It allowed me to open up and get to know a lot of people I had once overlooked as potential friends. Sunita and I do everything together. We went to all the high school football games, ran track, and went to the movies together. We had a dance class with each other and the teacher wanted to split us up in case of any fighting that may have occurred. That wasn’t a problem for us. Sunita and I even worked for a while together at Applebee’s. Most people couldn’t believe how well we got along, considering we were sisters. We even started going to church together and went on retreats. If you saw one of us, usually the other would be right behind.
I was disappointed that she wasn’t going to be with me anymore when I completed my school, but I was also happy for her because I knew she would be happy. We are four hours away from each other today. Even though we talk every day, we are both making new friends and changing our lives one day at a time. I know that I can call her anytime and she will be there for me. To this day, she is my best friend in the entire world. She is always there for me no matter what the reason may be. If it weren’t for Sunita, I don’t even know where I would be today. It is important that everyone has someone who they can trust and count on in life. She is my best friend who has molded me into the person I am today.

My Best Friend

A friend is a person whom one likes, respects, and meets often, friend-ship is the feeling that joins the hearts of two friends. Friendship is based on true love. A true friend is selfless. He helps his friend in the time of need. He advises him to act right. But it is very difficult to find a true friend in the world.

Man is a social being. He cannot live alone. He chooses someone of his choice. He may pass his leisure time with him. He will share his joys and sorrows with him. Thus a true friend is the best source of happiness. But such a friend cannot be had easily. According to Mahatma Gandhi, “Friendship cannot be bought with bribery.”

But it is not easy to make friends. A man must possess some qualities. First, he must trust his friend. Only then he can open himself up to him. Secondly, a friend should not always find fault with his friend. Thirdly, real friendship is possible between the equals. At the same time, no side should try to make friends as a matter of gain. Finally, a friend must be free from jealousy. He should be above suspicion about his friends. But there should be sweet air of love and goodwill between them. Only then friendship may be of great value. ‘What a precious thing true friendship says Rabindranath Tagore.

To make friends is a science; to keep friends is an art. Friendship will end if the friends are not kind and tolerant to each other. The aim of friendship must be to serve more than to be served. He must try to give more than he receives. This process of giving and taking should be a selfless process.

Besides, we must know how to differentiate a true friend from a false one. A false friend makes a friendship with selfish ends. But such friendship does not last long. A false friend always tries to take advantage of friendship. Be careful of such a false friend. Shakespeare says:

“A friend is need is a friend indeed”

And at one place he says:

“Words are easy like the wind faithful friends are hard to find.”

I have many friends, but I like Rajeev most. He is my best friend. He is a student of the 11th class. He belongs to a good family. His father is a college teacher. His mother, too, is educated. His brother and sister are also good students. Rajeev is the eldest child of his parents. So, he is loved and respected most.

Rajeev has several qualities. He loves me very much. He obeys his elders. lie respects his teachers. Teachers also love him. Rajeev goes to his class in time. He is seldom late or absent. the lie is very hard-working. He always stands first in our class. He is bright. He does very well in all the subjects.

Rajeev is a boy of good character. He is fair and tall. He is about 17. He never likes to tell lies. He never believes in cheating people. He is honest and fair. He is considerate. He does good to all. He never expects returns for what he does to others. He always looks happy and cheerful. He is kind and gentle.

On the playground, we play games together. We play hockey, football, and basketball. Rajeev is good at badminton. But he is still better in athletics. He went to Delhi to participate in the All India Athletic meet. He stood second in the high jump. He has set up a new record in the high jump in our school by beating all the previous records of 17 years.

I am fortunate to have a friend like Rajeev. He wants to become a college teacher or an I.A.S. officer. Who knows God will grant his wish one day! And then I shall be the happiest man on earth. I am proud of my friend.

Essay No. 07

My Best Friend

Friends should be fewer but they should be very sincere. But it is very difficult to find sincere friends. Such people cannot be found everywhere. If you have got enough money to spend on your friends, you may have plenty of friends. If you are a poor man, very few people care for you.

There are many well-wishers of mine in the world. But I do not find them suitable to befriend. Most of them are selfish people. If I ask them of making some favour to me, they do not stand by me.

A sincere friend can be tested in times of adversity. In times of prosperity, there are many friends, but in times of adversity, only a few people are left who stand by us. Such people are fit to be called as friends. Most of the people are very selfish and they know how to grind their own axe. They have no sympathy with you. They simply want to exploit you. Therefore, we have to search for good friends.

I have got only four friends who have proved themselves as worthy of my friends while tested well in times of adversity. But Shri Govind Lal is the sincerest person. Once I was travelling in the bus and unfortunately, my pocket was picked. He was with me. He caught the pick-pocket and snatched the purse from him and handed it over to me. He took him to the Police Station and thus saved my life and money. Since that day we have been close friends. He is a rich man’s son. His father has got a big factory. But he is a bold, plain-speaking, and truthful person.

I do not like lying or liars. Shri Govind Lal is a truth-loving fellow. He does not like lying. Luckily, he is my classmate also.

He is weak in his studies and I help him every day in the evening. He goes out for a walk with me and tells me strange stories. He visits my house and my mother treats him as her own son.

Shri Govind Lal is regular in his studies, but he needs my help. I know that he is very good at heart and therefore I, too, help him. I often go to his house and sit with him for hours together.

His house is in a bungalow. It has got a small orchard. We sit under the shady trees and study for hours. We are surrounded by flower plants. There is a very good atmosphere for studies. Only on holidays we sit and study together. My friend hates smoking and drinking. He hates lying. He hates all sorts of showmanship. He is sincere and good at heart. He has no envy against anyone. Again, he is a very funny type of person. He cuts jokes and we laugh our time away.

Do you well know that such friends are very rare? Believe me, I am lucky to have such a rare friend. I shall advise you all to test your friends in times of adversity. In times of adversity, many persons slip away. Only the sincerest persons help you and do not leave you. Only when a friend has been tested, he may be called a true friend.

You can’t befriend the whole world. Choose only a few persons but all those must have the above qualities. Then your friendship will last longer.

Essay on “My Best Friend”
It is said a friend in need is a friend indeed. An ideal friend possesses all the qualities of head and heart. It is easy to befriend many but difficult to choose good friends. God gives us relatives by virtue of being born in a family, but friends we can choose.

Rahul is my best friend. He has a personality and manners that never fail to make an impression on others. His presence in a company always makes it lively. Straightforward and outspoken, he never feels shy in the company of his seniors. He respects his elders and is affectionate and kind to the youngsters. Despite his religious bent of mind and high thinking Rahul always keeps himself trim by wearing decent clothes. He never comes to the school without a tie around his neck. He says that a physically smart person is always mentally smart. His dress shows how much care he takes in creating a total effect of his personality. There is nothing in his appearance which may give even the slightest feeling of his indifference and carelessness. He has a disciplined way of leading his life. I am proud of my friend. He is intelligent in his studies. All the students of his class look forward to him for guidance. He also is in the good books of the teachers. He has taken up N. C. C. in the school. He was declared as the best cadet in the zone. He speaks English fluently. He is also very good at writing. He has a good style of his own. Besides, he is a good thinker. Even the teachers sometimes call for his opinions in school matters. He always calls a spade a spade. All the things have endeared him to all of us.
