Dear customers,
Welcome to the
Autumn & Winter Catalogue 2006
, bringing together
the finest new, bestselling and forthcoming releases in natural history
publishing from around the world. As always,
every book listed here can
be ordered from our website,
www.nhbs.com
, where you will find the
most up-to-date information on over 100,000 titles in wildlife, science and
conservation.
We are pleased to highlight an increase the range of titles in all scientific
subjects. Our selection of botany books has been substantially increased
while astronomers in particular will find a much larger selection of titles
than before.
Our website continues to go from strength to strength as we endeavour to
maintain our status as the internet’s first and last stop for naturalists,
conservationists, scientists and librarians. Our
Biblio-Blog
keeps readers
informed of the books and news making waves
in the NHBS office whilst
also offering a quick and simple method for you to leave feedback and
opinions for everyone to read.
Summer 2006 also saw us busy on the road again, travelling to Hamburg
for the
International Ornithological Congress, Hungary for the
1st
European Congress of Conservation Biology, France for the
International Society for Behavioural Ecology’s Annual
Conference, and Rutland Water for the
British Birdfair. These trips are
always enjoyable and invaluable as they give
us an opportunity to meet
and talk with so many of our existing customers, to gain some new ones
and to get a feel for new developments in the subjects we cover.
The book industry moves fast and natural history/environmental
publishing is no exception. To stay abreast of all the latest publications,
you can sign up for our free monthly catalogue, sent by e-mail, which lists
up to 500 new titles every month. If you haven’t already signed up,
simply e-mail
subscribe@nhbs.co.uk
. Libraries can also receive
discounts on all our titles,
please contact
customer.services@nhbs.co.
uk
to find out more or set up a library account.
We hope that you find much of interest and value in this catalogue, and
that you will also not hesitate to contact our Customer Services
department with your other book requirements or any book-related
queries. They are here to help!
Wishing you a very happy Autumn and Winter,
Bernard Mercer

Supporting Conservation
NHBS is involved in supporting conservation
at many levels - we consider
this a key part of what we do and how we interact with conservation
bodies and non-commercial publishers.
Gratis Books
Working in close collaboration with Professor William Sutherland at the
University of East Anglia, we have distributed copies of his Conservation
Handbook and Bird Ecology & Conservation to people working in science
and conservation in developing countries. Upcoming titles include
Conservation Education and Outreach, and Wildlife Ecology, Conservation
and Management.
"Thanks a million for your thoughtfulness. I received the Conservation
Handbook. It is very useful to my project. Once again thank you very
much and may the good God bless us all as we strive to make the
environment a better place to live." J Grody Dorbor, Liberia
World Land Trust
The Books for Conservation programme is an exciting partnership
between the World Land Trust and NHBS. From simple beginnings in 2002
when we donated surplus books to the WLT, this programme has
developed into an important resource for struggling NGOs throughout the
world. To date NHBS have donated hundreds of books to this WLT
donation programme.
