Chapter 7: Black Eagle Castle

out what each of the following parts of a castle are and what they are

used for. You could also draw a picture.

Part of a castle

Description/Use/Drawing

Moat

A wide water-‐filled ditch around a castle.

Portcullis

A strong heavy gate which moves up and down

vertically and is used to block the entrance to a

castle.

Drawbridge

A bridge that is hinged at one end or in the

middle and can be lifted up to cut off access to a

castle or allow something in.

Rampart

A defensive bank often topped by a wall to keep

enemies out of a castle.

Dungeon

A prison cell often found underground.

Armory

A building in which weapons are stored.
