Membrano-proliferative glomerulonephritis
→ combination of the previous two types.
∙
no correlation between type of injury and light microscopic appearance;
∙
definitive diagnosis requires special techniques, e.g. fluorescent antibody test can help to
discriminate between Ag/Ab complex deposition ("lumpy-bumpy") and anti-basement membrane
antibody (linear); the antibody used in this test usually targets the host’s IgG fraction;
∙
chronic stage of GN: glomerular lesions progress to glomerulosclerosis (fibrous obliteration
16
[scarring] of glomeruli)
(sclerosis = hardness)
.
