4. Interpretation of the main family problems in Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet is a romantic work that tells about the love of two young hearts. Their tragedy was a quarrel and a long-term enmity not only of their parents, but of several generations. It was written by Shakespeare in 1594 and 1595. The play was published two years later. The plot used by the writer has already been used in literature. There is little exact information about the creation of the work. Perhaps this story could be in life and is now passed on as a legend. One thing can be said with sovereignty that readers like this story. Romantic love, passion, intrigue. All this keeps the reader in good shape. Only five days, and how many events happened. The plot develops in the spirit of that time. For Shakespeare's contemporaries, this was not surprising, but for us everything is so exciting and exciting. Because we cannot imagine that there can be such enmity and such love. Using the example of the main characters, Shakespeare shows us what human relationships can lead to. The meaning of the work is that true love can overcome obstacles and is not afraid of death. The problem lies not only in the hostility of the clans, but also in the unwillingness to go for reconciliation, even for the sake of their own children. On the contrary, it inflames anger even more. The most comical thing is that neither the Montagues nor the Capulets remember the reasons for the quarrel, but continue to maintain the old enmity.
At the beginning of the work there are feuds, duels, undisguised hostility, then at the end there is a truce. The feelings that arose between young people can be said that both Romeo and Juliet are still children. Feelings are strong and deep, which any adult can envy. How much courage and willpower lovers have. Not everyone dares to go against their parents. Leave home, well-established way of life. Due to their youth and their passionate desire to be together, young people decide to run away, to get married without a blessing. Fate is evil. Romeo Juliet must part. Servants help them with everything. Beloved away Juliet is in a desperate situation. Even children, they do desperate things for the sake of love. So Juliet decides to drink a potion that will help simulate death. It's not scary, but the fact that Romeo returned earlier, and no one could warn him, he takes real poison. Here Juliet had a choice; she could cry, sigh and continue to live when she saw the dead beloved. She makes a choice in favor of love. She is not afraid of death. She is afraid to live without a loved one. Juliet simply cannot imagine how she will meet the dawn and while away the long nights. The death of these two lovers served to reconcile the two families. Now only everyone is beginning to understand that the old enmity had a tragic effect on their destinies. “Romeo and Juliet is rightfully a masterpiece of world literature. The play, written back in 1595, does not lose its relevance among our contemporaries. Even those who have never held a volume of Shakespeare's plays in their hands know the essence of the work.
Starting the analysis of the play, it should be said about the genre of the work. The play is written in the genre of tragedy. Consequently, the end of the work is tragic in nature, at the end of the main characters death awaits. The composition of the play is based on a parallel confrontation between two warring families. At the beginning, we can observe the clash between the servants of the Montagues and the Capulets, so we can judge that the confrontation between the clans is serious. In each of the five acts, members of the warring clans face off in a fight, and by no means for life. Several of the most expressive moments can be distinguished in the play: this is the beginning of the relationship between Romeo and Juliet, the marriage of lovers, the duel between the enamored Romeo and Tybalt, the exile of Romeo, the death of the couple in love, and the most emotional and tragic scene in the crypt, which is the culmination of the play. The conflict of warring families is over.
Families realize the grief their enmity has caused them. William Shakespeare showed the reader the whole essence of the tragedy through the thread of a bright feeling of love, which is saturated with the whole play. The theme of love develops like the opening of a flower bud. Gently waking up in the early morning, like the heroes at the beginning of the play, it blooms with a bright color and dies by night. Love is sung in this work like nothing else. This is clearly felt in the monologues of Romeo and Juliet. Of course, the theme of love plays a major role, but Shakespeare also demonstrates the morals of the youth of the renaissance, the values of which differ from the then prevailing principles. The main characters are not afraid of the foundations of medieval society, or of their parents, or even of death. Romeo is the young offspring of the Montecchi family. In the heir of an eminent family, an impeccable education and strict upbringing are immediately visible. But at the same time, he is a young man whose heart yearns for love and romance. Juliet is the daughter of the noble Capulet family. At the beginning of the work, she is submissive to her parents. But having felt a sincere feeling of love for Romeo, he demonstrates his true strong-willed disposition. Young, but passionate nature. Playfulness and coquetry, she prefers to surrender to the whole feeling.
"Romeo and Juliet" - a work that served as the basis for many such stories. The story of this Shakespearean couple serves as an example of fidelity to the tender feeling of love and the steadfastness of the spirit in the face of obstacles, no matter how terrible they may be. This story about the relationship between a girl and a boy was invented and written long before Shakespeare. In the first century, the master of the word Ovid wrote the poem "Metamorphoses" in which he told about the death of two lovers in the name of love. In this poem, too, conflicting families, and children who loved each other. Shakespeare certainly knew this story, as evidenced by the scene in the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream", in which people rehearse a play about dead children. This poem was remade several times in Italy, and only then the brilliant Shakespeare took up this idea. And only thanks to the style of the master - this work became popular.
