What is Stress?

Signs of Stress in an individual (Think fit! Think well!)
An increase in unexplained absence or sick leave
Poor performance
Poor time-keeping
Increased consumption of alcohol, tobacco or caffeine
Frequent headaches or backaches
Withdrawal from social contact
Poor judgement or indecisiveness
Constant tiredness or low energy
Unusual displays of emotion e.g. frequent irritability, anxiety or tearfulness
Pathway
Steps and guidance (HSE)

Speak to your manager (if you feel you can’t talk directly to your line manager then another manager will be able to help you).

It is important to notify someone in your workplace that you are suffering have a stressful reaction.

If an employee reports work-place stress to a line manager, the company has a legal obligation and duty of care to deal with this accordingly.

The law requires the workplace to be actively managed to prevent accidents and ill-health before they happen.

The employer has a legal duty to put preventative measures in place to protect individuals from harm caused by work place stress.
Identifying a problem
COMPANY operates an open door policy with an aim that employees feel they can discuss pressures and problems at work as necessary to reduce the risks associated with the fast pace environment.
COMPANY works an inclusive management style with weekly team meetings and 1:1’s to help cohesion within the team, this helps as a supporting factor, identifying needs and aims, contributing suggestions and gaining advice.
COMPANY recognises its legal obligation to deal with any workplace stress that is notified to them.
Preventing harm
Staff are aware of taking regular breaks from their work to reduce the impact of stress.
COMPANY has carried out a stress risk assessment.
Managers have access to training in stress awareness and utilise the Guide to developing a workplace mental wellbeing programme.
