2.2. The methodological statement about the use of the exercises
- Why did you choose this exercise?
Choosing appropriate exercises in lessons increase the knowledge base students can access and students tap into physical, mental and emotional knowledge as they explore the material through different tasks. Because of that I chose variety activities including fill in the blanks, drilling, true false, logical connection, derivational exercises and so on. They are mostly based on teaching and learning vowels and consonants in English phonetics. With the help of these activities learners can learn how to pronounce vowels and consonants from the aspect of place of articulation, manner of articulation, and voicing, and vowels from the aspect of frontness/ backness of tongue, tenseness/ laxness, and lip rounding.
-For what level of the learners it can be used
These activities can be used for beginning, elementary, intermediate, level English language learners. For example; 1.2,7 activities are appropriate for elementary levels. 3,4,5 are pre intermediate levels. 6 is for intermediate level.
-What is the aim of this activity?
Main aims of these activities are:

  • Provide learners with knowledge about vowel and consonant

  • Make them practice with different activities

In these exercises, we are going to look at extremely common words that you will use all the time when speaking English. We will start by saying a word neutrally, so that they are clear and easy to understand without any particular rising or falling tone. Then we will practice these words with normal rising and falling intonation. From there, we will increase the rise or the fall in order to express more intense emotions. At the end, we will practice them all together so that you can hear the difference.
