The Treaty of Turkmenchay was an agreement between Qajars and the Russian Empire, which concluded the Russo-Persian War (1826–1828). It was second of the series of treaties signed between Qajar Iran and Imperial Russia that forced Persia to cede or recognize Russian influence over the territories that formerly were part of Iran.

The treaty was signed on 21 February 1828 (5 Sha'ban 1243) in Torkamanchay (a village between Tabriz and Tehran).

A draft peace and trade agreement was prepared taking into account the written proposals that Yermolov and Menshikov submitted to the Russian Foreign Minister Count K. V. Nesselrode a month later. The tsar's decree on the terms of the future agreement was brought to the Russian camp near Celaloglu on May 24, 1827 II. The Russian command was fully prepared to negotiate. In Garaziad's negotiations, A. S. Griboyedov stated in order to influence the Iranian officials from a psychological point of view that we will go ahead and secure the independence of this vast province by owning Azerbaijan.

Negotiations resumed in Dehkargan on November 6. Some serious disagreements over the issue of reparations led to the breakdown of negotiations on January 7. Russian troops rushed forward. Urmiya was captured on January 28 and Ardabil on February 8. The closing of the contract was accelerated. On the night of February 9-10, an agreement was signed in Turkmenchay village near Tabriz.
