Working Group 10.5 (Design and Engineering of Electronic Systems)

1 - Members
Two new members have been added during the period:

– Prof. Graziano Pravadelli, University of Verona, Italy

– Prof. Luciano Ost, University of Leicester, UK

- Prof. Carlos Silva Cardenas, PUCPeru


The geographic distribution of the members is as follows:

  • North America: 6 members, 5 honorary members

  • South America: 3 members

  • Europe: 30 members, 3 honorary members

  • Middle East/Africa: 0

  • Asia/Pacific: 7 members, 1 honorary member

2 - Officers
The Vice Chairs continue to serve:

  • Prof. Srinivas Katkoori, University of South Florida, U.S.A.

  • Prof. Lionel Torres, University of Montpellier, France

New WG Chair, Masahiro Fujita, has been elected and started to serve on January 1, 2016.


3 - Meetings
The following business meetings took place in the period October 2015 to September 2016:

  • Dresden, Germany, March 16, 2016, in conjunction with DATE 2016, 12 attendees + 3 invited

  • Austin, Texas, June 2016, in conjunction with Design Automation Conference 2016, June 7, 2016, about 10 attendees

The following business meetings are planned for the coming year:

  • Tallinn, Estonia, September 2016, in conjunction with VLSI-SoC 2016

  • Lausanne, Switzerland, March 2017, in conjunction with DATE 2017,

  • Austin, Texas, June 2017, in conjunction with DAC 2017


4 - Sponsored Events: the VLSI-SoC Conference Series
The main conference sponsorship activity of WG 10.5 is the annual IFIP/IEEE International Conference on Very Large Scale Integration, "VLSI-SOC" Conference.
The members of the Steering Committee are: Manfred Glesner, TU Darmstadt, Germany; Matthew Guthaus, UC Santa Cruz, USA; Salvador Mir, TIMA, France; Ricardo Reis, UFRGS, Brazil; Michel Robert, U. Montpellier; France, Luis Miguel Silveira, INESC ID, Portugal; Chi-Ying Tsui, HKUST, Hong Kong, China.
VLSI-SoC 2015
The 23rd venue was co-sponsored by IEEE CEDA and CASS, ACM SIGDA, and KAIST. Its venue was the Conference Center of Daejeon, South Korea. It was co-located with IFIP WCC.
The Conference was organized and chaired by Prof. Naehyuck Chang, KAIST, Korea and Prof. Kiyoung Choi, Seoul National Univ, Korea. The Program co-chairs are Prof.
Youngsoo Shin, KAIST, Korea and Prof. Chi-Ying Tsui, HKUST, Hong Kong.

The program committee, of 92 members from 24 countries, was structured into 10 technical tracks: with respect to the previous year, several tracks were grouped in the new track "Architecture", and two new tracks were created.


138 abstract were submitted, but only 117 papers were finally uploaded by the extended submission date. Acceptance rate is 38% (44/117) for regular presentations, and 53% for regular presentations + posters. In addition, 9 PhD Forum posters were also selected.

  • SBCCI 2016, 29th Symposium on Integrated Circuits and Systems Design, August 29 - September 2, 2016, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. http://www.sbcci.org.br . The number of participants was about 350.


4.5.6 Planned Events
The following main sponsored events are already planned:


  • IFIP/IEEE VLSI-SoC 2016: Tallinn, Estonia, September 26-28, 2016. General Chairs: Prof Jaan Raik, Tallinn UT, Estonia and Prof. Ian O'Connor, Ecole Centrale de Lyon, France.

  • IFIP/IEEE VLSI-SoC 2017: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 23-25 October 2017, Yas Viceroy Hotel. General Chair: Prof. Ibrahim Elfadel, Masdar Institute.

  • SBCCI 2017 - 30th Symposium on Integrated Circuits and Systems Design, August 28 - September 1, 2017, Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil
