ITC’s
Safety Policy Statement
ITC Holdings Corp.,
A Fortis Company, is the nation’s largest independent electricity transmission company,
operating in eight states. ITC’s calling card is operational excellence, transforming low performing systems into
top-tier reliability success stories.
We leverage our planning, engineering and regulatory expertise to create the
grid of the future.
Few industries pose greater inherent hazards than ours. At ITC, we take a proactive approach to safety. We are
committed to providing a safe work-place for all of our employees and contractors. We believe that safety is an
attitude and working conviction. We will under no circumstances compromise the safety of our employees,
contractors or the public in the course of providing the most reliable electricity transmission service. The
foundation of our business strategy is to safely and efficiently operate, maintain and invest
in our transmission
infrastructure in order to enhance system integrity, improve reliability and to reduce transmission congestion.
ITC requires, and will provide for the use of all, industry-approved personal protective equipment, proper tools,
and training. ITC management is committed to achieve an event-free environment
and lifestyle by promoting
operational excellence through safe work practices.
Onsite safety inspections are conducted frequently both by our Safety Department and an independent third-
party safety contractor. Meetings are held regularly with ITC Field Supervisors and contractor management
personnel to discuss safety performance and to identify areas for improvement.
All ITC employees and contractors who work on ITC facilities or near energized equipment are provided a copy
of the ITC Safety Handbook. It serves as a guide to the company’s safe work practices and policies, and
explains ITC’s policies regarding wearing of personal protective equipment, use of safety procedures, and other
important safety-related topics.
We value relationships at ITC, with those we work with and with those outside of the workplace, our family and
friends. Those relationships depend on each of us holding safety as a core value, the number one value. That
starts with each of us taking responsibility for our actions and continues with the expectation that we look out for
each other’s safety.
