Both came from Soluň and before than they went invite priest Rostislav to Great Moravian (863), they functioned some time as missionary at Chazar in Krym. Cyril was born in 827 as the youngest of 7 children. His first name was Konstantin. In Rome he came into monastery and he received name Cyril. He died on 14 th February in 869 and he buried in basilica Saint Klement.
Metoděj is also regular name. Originally he named maybe Michal. At first he functioned in state administrative service with Slovanians in settled part of byzantine empire. About 840 he gave precedence nunhood. He accopmanied his younger brother to Great Moravian and to Rome. There pope Hadrián II. consecrate him onto priest(868) and he established him archbishop for territory Great Moravian and Panonie (869). He continued in work, which he initiated with his brother and he christened of czech prince Bořivoj.
