Incident Command, performed emergency
medical
response
triage,
treatment,
evacuation, disposition and patient tracking,
and also provided non-medical manpower
support for patient movement from point of
injury to evacuation platforms. Our staff of
over 180 personnel performed admirably and
garnered the praise of several top Pentagon
and federal agency leaders.
DTHC also provides medical support for
various special events that occur at the
Pentagon. In 2016, DTHC provided on-scene
medical support for approximately 75
distinguished visitors (DVs) to the Pentagon.
These DVs consisted of various national and
world leaders to include presidents, prime
ministers, ministers of defense and others. In
addition, our medical staff provided coverage
for the 9/11 Observance, the Army 10-Miler,
the Marine Corps Marathon and prepared to
provide support at the Pentagon for the
Presidential Inauguration in January 2017 and
on-site medical coverage to the people
participating in the Presidential Inaugural
Parade. Other medical support missions
include White House medical coverage
assistance and on-call support to the Office of
the Secretary of Defense and the Presidential
Support Detachment.
Fit To Win (FTW) is a US Army-initiated multi-
disciplinary holistic approach to preventing
chronic health diseases that has expanded to
all branches of service and is an important
part of DiLorenzo Tricare Health Center’s
services to Pentagon active duty and civilian
personnel. A multidisciplinary team consisting
of a program administrator, nurse educator,
health
educator,
dietitians,
exercise
physiologists, and a kinesiologist assess a
patient’s overall health with the FTW online
assessment tool and a Personal Wellness
Profile. The completed results are reviewed
with patients by a team nurse or health
educator. With results and patient goals in
hand, appointments can be scheduled for a
personal fitness plan, corrective exercise
screen,
running
gait
analysis,
body
composition analysis, nutritional counseling,
aerobic testing, educational classes and more.
Telemedicine continue to advance. DTHC
currently provides tele-audiology services
ranging from diagnostic audiology and remote
hearing aid fittings to downloadable hearing
aid applications and real-time rehabilitation
interventions. Tele-audiology has the capacity
to provide access to audiological services to
the incredibly busy individuals who work in
the Pentagon.
Managing pain effectively is often challenging
for any healthcare provider. Comprehensive
pain management through the use of tele-pain
services
facilitates
multidisciplinary
collaboration and allows providers to develop
interdisciplinary care plans for complex pain
patients. DiLorenzo’s tele-pain services make
consultation
with
pain
management
specialists at Walter Reed Bethesda possible
without requiring patients to commute to
Bethesda.
Mod Squad Bod Pod.
Simply put, this retro-
looking, computerized,
egg-shaped chamber is
used to measure a
patient’s body fat.
As a highly accurate air
displacement plethysmo-
graph, it uses whole body
densitometry to detect
small changes in body fat
and lean body mass.
Body composition
analysis is one of the best
indicators of health, and
a key part of the Fit to
Win program DTHC uses
to help patients improve
their overall health and
to prevent the onset of
chronic disease.

The University Family Health Center (UFHC) is
a primary care clinic that provides full-scope
healthcare
services
to
students,
their
dependents, faculty and eligible employees at
Uniformed Services University, the nation’s
federal health professions academy. It’s where
up-and-coming doctors and nurses and their
families go for their personal healthcare
needs. Whether the students are enrolled in
the School of Medicine, the Graduate School
of Nursing or one of the university’s graduate
programs in the biomedical sciences or public
health, UFHC serves as their one-stop medical
home so that they can focus on their
education.
The University Family Health Center is staffed
primarily by members of the university’s
Department
of
Family
Medicine
and
supplemented by faculty from Dermatology,
the Graduate School of Nursing, the
Department
of
Medical
and
Clinical
Psychology, the Department of Psychiatry, and
the Department of Preventive Medicine and
Biostatistics. In addition, Walter Reed
Bethesda provides robust pharmacy, medical
logistics, information technology, laboratory
and immunizations staff support. A family
physician staffs after-hours phone support.
As a family health center, UHFC provides
obstetrics and prenatal care that ranges from
conception
to
birth
(delivery
room
management). It also offers pediatric and
adolescent services and manages the
transition to adult care—all of which can be
delivered by the same provider.
An Integrative Approach to Family-Centered
Care
Using the PCMH model of primary care, UFHC
not only provides access to behavioral health
services that are managed by a patient’s
primary care provider but also staffs a fully-
functioning counseling center within the clinic.
This integrative approach helps patients
develop, nurture and maintain healthy
lifestyles and behaviors within a primary care
environment. It also helps USU to meet the
standards of the Liaison Committee on
Medical Education (the accrediting body for
educational programs at schools of medicine
in the United States and Canada). They require
medical schools to provide student counseling
centers for their students.
Also embedded within the University Family
Health Center is a primary care sports
medicine program. UFHC provides acute and
chronic musculoskeletal injury management,
with the ability to use diagnostic and
procedural ultrasonography. Therapies include
exercise
prescriptions
and
therapeutic
injections with a variety of agents, including
dextrose proloetherapy, platelet-rich plasma
and botulism toxin.
UFHC is also proud to offer a complete
spectrum of medical acupuncture services.
