Students who miss a test for an acceptable reason such as illness will be permitted to write the test when they return. It
is the responsibility of the student to meet with the teacher after providing a note to administration signed by a parent
attesting to the validity of the absence. This note must be provided no later than 2 days after the absence or the student
will not be eligible to rewrite the test. The student will be assigned a time to write the exam. Should the student not attend
the designated time, the exam grade will be marked as a zero. Students have two school days to make this arrangement
from the time they return to school. Failure to meet all of the above requirements will result in a zero grade.
Late Assignments
Assignments are due to teachers at the beginning of class on the date they are due. Students who miss deadlines will be
penalized 10% per day up to 50% of the total grade. After this, assignments will not be accepted and students will be
given zero for the assignment. Weekends will carry a one‐day penalty of 10%. Students who are absent on the day that an
assignment is due must submit the assignment electronically, or be penalized as stated above.
If a student has extenuating circumstances and is unable to meet the deadline set out by the teacher, it is the student’s
responsibility to meet with the teacher, explain the problem and request an extension. This must be done
before the
assignment is due. Teachers are not required to provide an extension, but will consider the possibility depending upon
the circumstances.
Semester Reports
Students who have any outstanding work at the end of a semester
for an approved reason by Head of School will have
2 weeks to submit the work for a grade change. Approved reasons include hospitalization and family emergencies that
are substantiated by documentation. No grades will be changed in a previous quarter after this grace period.
Exam Grades 9‐12
Evaluation of a student's’ progress will include a midterm and inal exam at the end of semester 1 and semester 2,
respectively. The midterm exam will assess student learning on all content from semester one. The final exam will assess
student learning on some elements of semester 1 work but the focus will be primarily on semester 2 content.
Exam Procedures – grades 9‐12
The days allotted for exams will be posted in advance. It is important that students & parents
do not schedule any
vacations during these times. Students may not miss an exam unless there are extenuating circumstances. A medical
note from a physician will be required if you are too ill to write an exam. If any other emergency arises, the Head of
Secondary must be informed and permission requested to be absent from the exam. Students who do not write an exam
will receive zero. Students who arrive late to an exam will not be given extra time to compensate for time lost.
Final Assessment Procedures – grades 6‐8
Middle school students will be given final assessments at the end of each semester. This will be averaged into their final
semester grades.
Final Assessments Grades 9 to 12
The irst semester is weighted at 40% and the midterm exam is weighted at 10% for a semester one grade out of 100.
Semester two grades are weighted at 40% and the inal exam is 10% for a grade out of 100. The semester 1 and 2 grades
are then averaged for a inal grade out of 100. The final grade determines whether or not the student has passed or failed.

Grading Policy for Grades 6‐8
The year is divided into two semesters and both are weighted equally. At the
end of the school year, a final grade is
calculated by averaging the two semesters. It is this final grade that determines whether a student has passed or failed for
the year.

Attendance Policy for Secondary
The attendance policy and procedures at AAM have been developed in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s
Private Education Law. Student absence will be recorded and monitored by the administration of the school. The school
principal or designate is entitled to make a decision with regard to excused and unexcused absences. As per Article 48 –
2A: If the student is absent from school for no reason or for an unacceptable reason for 20 consecutive days or 25 non‐
consecutive days during one school year, the student may be expelled from school.
Any student with an absence (full day, homeroom, or period) or tardy will not be permitted to attend activities/events
during or after school hours on that day.
Total number of tardies, absences per class or absences per school day (without
a doctor’s note) will cause the student to be ineligible to attend special trips or participate in special activities. More than
3 full days absence, part day absence, or tardies combined will disallow the student from participation in these events.
If the student fails to attend one class period, the absence will be calculated into the total absences for the course, which
could lead to a lowered grade or failure for the course. Please note that unexcused absences per class, and not part of
an entire school day will be counted as additional absences (at the discretion of the Head of Secondary).
Late to School:
Students are considered late to school if they are not in their first period classes at the sounding of the bell at
8:00 am. Students who arrive late to school are expected to check in at the Reception area to receive a late pass to class.
Tardy to Class:
Students are considered tardy to class if they are not in attendance the first five minutes.
