Early Dismissal:
Students who leave before the final bell will be marked as having an early dismissal. The absence per class will
accumulate and will result in a lowered grade, and possible failure.
The following guidelines are per semester:
●
Two tardies to class will be considered an absence
●
Late to class (within the first five minutes) may also cause the student to lose points if point bearing
tasks were given
●
Early leaves that result in an absence to class will accumulate
●
Absences from class will accumulate and affect the final grade, so that per semester, five unexcused
absences will lead to a 5% reduction of inal grade, while 10 absences or more will lead to a 10%
reduction in final grade per semester.
●
Detentions may be assigned as a reminder and consequence for behavior
●
A probation meeting may be called for excessive absences and/or tardies
Secondary Students Tardy Policy:
Three times tardies will be equivalent to one absence. A student who arrives to class more than 10 minutes late will be
recorded as absent from the class in the school records, and grades will be affected. Students who are late to more than
one class within the school day will receive a warning on the first two occasions and referral to the Head of Secondary on
the third. Detentions may be assigned as a consequence.
Participation in any non‐academic activities requires a full day of attendance. Any student with an absence or late
to school may not be permitted to participate in activities or events during or after school hours on that day.
Secondary Students (grades 6 to 12) additional attendance policy:
If the student fails to attend one class period or more for one day or more:
1. Teachers will record student absences for each lesson of the day.
2. Absence days for an acceptable reason, as verified through documentation, will not be calculated into the total
absence which could lead to a lowered grade or failure.
3. Unexcused absence per class will accumulate and affect final grades.
4. Absence per class will accumulate and students could be placed on academic probation.
5. A probation meeting will be convened for any student who is placed on probation for 3 consecutive quarters and
the student’s eligibility for return to AAM for the next academic year will be determined at that time.
Please note that absences per‐class, and not part of an entire school day will be counted as additional absence for
the course. According to the Ministry of Education absences of more than 20 consecutive days, or 25 days in total
may result in a failure for the course, unless prior arrangements have been made.

Late to school, Early Release and Tardy to Class
Absences, Lates, or Early Release will accumulate unless excused by a Doctor’s Note, or verification of an actual
emergency. Parent requests, traffic, or appointments that are not medical emergencies do not excuse absences.
Scheduled medical procedures are considered an absence.
Uniform Guidelines and Attendance
The uniform guidelines are outlined in the parent/student handbook. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Any
student who is out of uniform will be asked to call home for the proper uniform to be supplied, before being allowed to
enter classes. Any classes missed due to being out of uniform are considered to be an unexcused absence, as students who
are not in proper uniform will not attend classes. Students who have an urgent situation must have parents call before
the beginning of the school day. Out of uniform includes any shoe that is not all black, the wearing of any jacket that is not
uniform, pants that are not uniform, or lack of the school blouse.
Attendance and Field Trips or Other Special Activities
Field Trips and special activities serve as rewards for our students. Students may not attend a field trip or participate in
non‐curricular activities if they have more than a combined total of 10 absences and lates to school per semester. Please
note that lates to class will accumulate and become the equivalent of one absence.
Student Progress and Concerns
Students with academic and behavioral concerns will be identified and their needs addressed through a collaborative
process that includes the Head of the Division,
the Section Coordinator, parents, and the relevant teachers. Parents will be
involved in the communications and action plan once the student has been identified. It is our goal to meet the needs of
all students, and to involve the parents in all aspects of the plan.
Academic Probation
Any student who receives two failing grades in a subject or earns a total average of 65% or lower will be placed on
academic probation for the next quarter.
Students placed on academic probation will be required to meet with the Head of Secondary, the school counselor,
parents, and the relevant teachers at the beginning of the semester to develop a plan of action. Teachers must keep track
of student progress; however, the overall responsibility for grades and attendance is YOURS.
Students and parents share the responsible for checking the grades online via Schoology.
Teacher/Student/Parent Academic Contract
A contract will be given to students after they are placed on academic probation. This contract will delineate the
responsibility of the student and the parents and will outline the intervention strategies that have been put in place by the
school.
