Yardliyawara and Yarluyandi Languages; joint project
with Dr Mary Laughren, University of Queensland on
the Wanyi language for the World Endangered Lan-
guages Project; gave course on Victorian Aboriginal
Languages to the Australian Linguistics Institute, Mel-
bourne; gave workshop at Port Augusta for the Arabana
teaching course; adviser, Wangkumara and Punthu-
mara Land claims, the Birdsville Cultural Centre and
the de Rose Hill Land claim.
Dr LIDDICOAT, editor, Current Issues in Language
Planning; member, Editorial CommitteeAustralian Re-
view of Applied Linguistics; referee, Journal of Pragmatics
and Applied Linguistics; member, Australian Linguistic
Association, the Applied Linguistics Association of Aus-
tralia, the Modern Language Teachers Association and
the Australian Literacy Educators Association, the AT-
ESOL Association and the Australian Council of
Education Administrators; invited to give evidence to
the Legislative Assembly Education Committee’s “in-
quiry into adolescents and young adults at risk of not
achieving satisfactory education and training out-
comes”; delegation member, organised by the
Education Committee, Legislative Assembly to meet
with the South African Portfolio Committee on Educa-
tion (National Assembly); member of the Steering
Committee, Barnardos Australia Home Tutoring
Project; worked with the Embassy of Italy to develop a
bilingual school program for Italian in the ACT.
Ms Peita LITTLETON studied for the Interpreters’ Ac-
creditation in Applied Language (Australian Sign
Language) at the Canberra Institute of Technology,
Canberra.
Dr Rose produced three forensic speaker identification
reports for the Australian Federal Police and National
Crime Authority; member, Technical Program and
Proceedings Committee, 8

Speech Science and Technology Conference (SST
2000); refereed 16 papers for publication; member, Fo-
rensic Speaker Identification Committee, Australian
Speech Science and Technology Association (ASSTA),
and National Voice Centre Research Committee; or-
ganiser and superviser in the production of 12
internationally refereed papers given by staff and stu-
dent members of the department’s Phonetics
Laboratory at SST; at the request of the Department of
Defence, developed a full semester unit teaching stu-
dents to recognise two groups of three closely related
languages by their sounds alone.

guistics; reviewed papers and book proposals for
