Health and Safety Procedure
6.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A variety of situations exist at Council worksites where barricading and/or safety signage are required.
Barricading and safety signage draw attention to hazardous objects and situations that may affect
health and safety, reducing the potential of injury to personnel and damage to property.
Examples
include warning tape, mesh barrier, road barriers, traffic control signs, emergency signage, mandatory
PPE signs and precautionary signage.
Barricading and safety signage shall be used:
•
when there are no other practical control measures available to control a hazard;
•
as an interim measure until a more effective way of controlling
the risk can be used or the
hazard is no longer present; and
•
as a secondary control measure to supplement higher level control measures.
The type and number of barricading or safety signage erected must be assessed
adequately and
positioned to be suitable for the intended purpose.
