Reptiles have been around for millions of years and once were the most common vertebrate
animals on Earth. Today, reptiles are divided into four main groups: turtles and tortoises;
lizards and snakes; crocodiles and alligators; and the tuatara. A tuatara looks like a lizard, but
it isn’t. It’s a species left over from a group of reptiles as old as dinosaurs. It is the closest thing
to a living dinosaur. Tuataras live only in New Zealand and are in danger of becoming extinct.
Some reptiles spend most of their time in water. But most species live on land. All have scaly
skin to protect them. Reptiles are found in all habitats except polar ice in the Arctic and the tundra.
Reptiles usually lay their eggs in nests or holes dug in the ground. But some snakes, like
rattlesnakes, let the eggs hatch inside the body and give birth to live babies. Female crocodiles
are very good mothers. They guard the nest and even help the hatchlings get a start in life.
Some snakes do this, too. But most reptiles lay their eggs and leave. The hatchlings, which are
perfect miniature copies of their parents, are on their own.
149. According to the passage, tuataras are
most like ...
A) turtles
B) rattlesnakes

EXCEPT ....

B) New Zealand
C) Europe
D) the Arctic
151. According to the passage, all baby
reptiles ....
A) are poisonous
B) resemble their parents
C) try together to survive
D) have four limbs
152. All of the following statements are TRUE,
EXCEPT:
A) Tuataras can be found only in New
Zealand.
B) Today, reptiles can be divided into four
main groups.
C) Reptiles used to be the most
widespread vertebrates on the Earth.
D) Mother crocodiles don’t help their
children after hatching.

People believe things about cats that might not be true. These “ myths” can confuse cat
owners. If you like cats, learn the facts and fiction about them. Some people think that cats need
to drink milk. That is not true. If a cat eats a good diet, it does not need to drink milk. Does
your cat drink milk? Most cats like milk, but it can make them sick. Cats should only have milk
in small amounts. Have you heard the one about garlic? People put garlic on cat food. They
believe it will get rid of worms in the cat’s body. Does it work? Garlic makes food taste richer.
Garlic does nothing to worms. It will give the cat bad breath! If your cat has worms, take it to a
vet and your cat will be given medicine. The medicine will take care of the worms. Some people
think that cats’ whiskers help them to balance.
Whiskers serve as “ feelers”. They do nothing at all for balance. “ Feelers” help the cat know
about its surroundings. Have you heard these myths before? Do not believe them. Learn how
to care for cats. Read books and talk to your veterinarian. Cats need good owners to care for
them.

I have just returned to England from a holiday in Spain, staying at the Bella Vista Hotel,
and I am writing to complain about a number of points.
Firstly, I was informed just before my departure that the flight time for the outward
journey had been changed, so that instead of arriving in the morning and being able to enjoy
the rest o f the day at the resort, I arrived at midnight. Then, contrary to the information
I had been sent, there was no representative to meet me on arrival, so I had to take a taxi at
a cost of $25. I was also dissatisfied with the Bella Vista Hotel. The lift was frequently out
of order, the food in the coffee shop was awful, and the ‘small extra charge’ for windsurfing
and other activities, mentioned in the information sheet, turned out to be extremely high.
I complained to the Cheapotours representative at the time but found her unwilling to do
anything to help me. In view of these problems, I feel I have the right to ask for compensation
and I think that 25% of the cost of the holiday would be an acceptable sum.
