1943, 1946 and 1950 Selection Candidates  
for Nomination of the Republic People’s Party in Sinop 
(Panoramic and prosopographic Evaluation) 
 
 
Abstract 
In general, choice is a voluntary choice between multiple options, and in fact human life consists 
of reflexes built with preferences. Political elections are related to the work and operations of the 
rulers determining the rulers. Elections are one of the indispensable elements of pluralist democ-
racies, and the existence of a political power can only be  legitimized through  elections. One of 
the most important steps in the selection process is the process of determining candidates. Political 
party nomination is one of the vital indicators of intra-party democracy. The job of nominating 
candidates is crucial for the democratic regime and for the political process to be healthy and for 
the  intervention  of  the  national  will.  The  practices  in  this  area  are  capable  of  deciphering  the 
political preferences and tendencies of the countries as well as the parties. There are no laws in 
our country that regulate the process of nominating candidates until 1961. The process of appo-
inting  candidates  has  been  abandoned  to  the  head  of  the  general  or  presidential  council.  This 
situation continued until 1947. The Republican People's Party accepted that 70% of the candidates 
were selected by the local organizations at the 7th Congress. Thus, the intra-organizational oli-
garchy  have  been  terminated.  This  study  is  an  archival  study  that  provides  statistical  data  and 
biographical  sections  about  candidates  for  nomination  of  the  Republican  People's  Party  in  the 
1943,  1946 and  1950  elections.  Our aim  is  to  make  a panoramic  assessment  of  the  candidate's 
nomination’ age, gender and educational status, their professional characteristics and experiences, 
politics  and  expectations  from  the  People's  Party,  and  to  carry  out  an  analytical  review  of  the 
candidate's nomination strategies.Working position; from a conceptual and theoretical introduc-
tion to democracy and  election, a panoramic text  evaluating the 1943, 1946 and 1949 elections 
and Sinop candidate for nomination, and finally a prosopographical content of candidate candi-
dates.

Öz 
Osmanlı  Devleti'nin  sosyal  ve  ekonomik  tarihiyle  ilgili  yapılan  araştırmalarda  faydalanılan  en 
önemli kaynaklardan birisi de  "Nüfus Defterleri"dir. Bu defterler, sadece sayımı  yapılan bölge-
lerdeki insanların isimlerini vermekle kalmamakta, ödeyecekleri vergilerden uğraştıkları meslek-
lere, çocuk sayılarından yaşlarına ve sağlık durumlarına kadar birçok hususla ilgili bilgileri ihtiva 
etmektedir. Bir toplumu oluşturan nüfusun yapısı, memleket üzerindeki yayılışı, yoğunluğu, yaş 
ve cinsiyete göre dağılımı gibi hususiyetler etraflıca ortaya konulduğu takdirde incelenecek dö-
nem veya bölge ile ilgili daha isabetli değerlendirmeler yapılabilecektir. Bu bildiride, Bolu Eya-
leti'ne bağlı Kastamonu Sancağı içerisinde yer alan Gerze Kazası'nın 1831-33 yıllarına ait nüfus 
defterlerine göre evvelâ nüfus yapısı ortaya konacaktır. Bu hususla ilgili, kazada nüfusun müslim-
gayrimüslim  durumu ve karyelere dağılımı  hakkında bilgi verilecektir. Ayrıca, kazada meskûn 
ahalinin aile yapısı ve buna bağlı olarak, çocuk sayısı, yaş ortalaması ve yaygın kullanılan isimler 
gibi  hususlar  tespit  edilecektir.  Bunlara  ilaveten,  Gerze  Kazası'nda  yaşayan  gayrimüslimlerin 
"ednâ, evsat ve a'lâ (düşük, orta ve yüksek)" olarak ödedikleri toplam cizye miktarı ortaya kona-
caktır.

Social Structure in Gerze Township according to first Population Censuses  
 
 
Abstract 
 The census registries are one of the most important recourses that are made use of especially in 
the research of social and economic history of the Ottoman Empire. These registries contain not 
only the names of the people in the censuses but also the information about the tax they will be 
paying, the details about the occupations they are dealing with, the number of children, their age 
and their health. If the characteristics of the population  making up a society, its distribution on 
the country, its intensity, its distribution by age and sex, etc., are put forth, it will be possible to 
make more accurate evaluations about the period or region to be studied. In this report, according 
to the population books belonging to the 1831-33 years of the Gerze Township in the Kastamonu 
Sanjak of Bolu Province, the population structure will be revealed first. Information on this matter 
will be  given  on the accidental  non-Muslim status of the population in the accident and on the 
distribution of currencies. In addition, the family structure of the resident ahalin will be determi-
ned, including the number of children, the average age and commonly used names. In addition to 
this, the total amount of money paid by non-Muslims living in the Gerze Township as "ednâ, evsat 
and â'lâ (low, middle and high)" will be revealed.
