dan Görünüm (1838) adını verdiği fotoğrafında, Paris’in
bir bulvarı ilk kez fotoğraflanmakla kalmamış, aynı
zamanda ilk insan fotoğrafı da çekilmiştir. Daguerre’in
Bildirinin amacı, Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre’in
mektir.
In Paris Science Academy, on 7th of January, 1839,
François Arago announced a new discovery to the acad-
emy members and to the World: “Dagerrotype”. This is
actually photograph, a discovery that would change the
visual representation for ever. Photograph, a discovery
by Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre (1787-1851), was
invented as a result of a series of studies which had
been implemented by Daguerre since the middle of the
1820’s. Daguerre here, managed to fix an image from
the world for ever on a copper plate covered with silver.
Daguerre is not only the originator of the photograph, he
was also an intellectual of the 19th Century with unlim-
ited range of areas of interest. He specialized in land-
scape painting and painted stage paintings for the Paris
Opera and for the popular theaters. Next to this, he
worked as a panorama painter and assisted panorama
painter Pierre Prevost. In 1822, he also opened Diorama
theather with his co-partner Charles Marie Bouton. In
this theatre he exhibited his own paintings with dimen-
sions of 14 to 21 meters, and created illusions with
different plays of light. This theatre was one of the main
amusement centres of the period and competitor of the
panoramas. Using camera obscura in order to have a
proper perspective in his paintings which he exhibited in
his Diorama, and studying on the nature of light in order
to create different illusions were significant steps which
prepared the invention of photography. Daguerre had
accelerated his studies on photography after he signed
an agreement with the founder of the helyograph, Nie-
pce, and shot his first Dagerotype in 1838. With his first
photograph, which is named “Boulevard du Temple”, he
not only photographed one of the boulevards of Paris,
but also shot the first photograph of a human. After this
invention of Daguerre, photograph had spread through-
out France and the World both as an artistic expression
and a strong scientific tool, and several dagerotypes in
different genres, especially portrait photographs were
created.
In addition to his discovery of the photograph, Daguerre
was an well-known collectioner, chemist, stage de-
signer, panorama painter, the originator of the Diorama
and an intellectual of the 19th Century with unlimited
range of areas of interest. He was also contemporary
with intellectuals like Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867). In
recent years several fiction novels have been published
on the interesting and versatile life of Daguerre, and
several books have been written on his studies, and
several biographies also have been completed. The
dagerotypes he created are exhibited in the museums
around the World. A group called Daguerrian Society,
which was founded in 1988, in the USA, has organized
conferences and shooting sessions in order to sustain
the technique of Daguerre.
The aim of this paper is to focus on the 19th Century
Paris and on the art of this period by studying the ver-
satile biography of Daguerre.

mucidi’ (Curley, 2010: 77) ; ‘dagerotipin mucidi, tiyatro
Daguerre’in dagerotip ica-
Onun, sanat
hayatı, henüz 17 yaşında iken başlamıştır. Adının geçtiği
ilk kayıtlar Paris Opérası’nın resim stüdyosunda yer
almaktadır. Burada resim ve perspektif ile ilgili çalış-
malar yapmıştır. (Resim 1) Buraya 1804 yılında yazılmış,
ressam Ignazio-Eugenio-Maria Degotti’nin ders verdiği
sınıfta eğitim almıştır. Jacques-Louis David’in öğrencisi
olduğu yönünde de iddialar bulunmaktadır. (Pinson,
2008: 363)
