Existing data can be used to develop game-spe-cific physiological conditioning drills and providea quantitative representation of the physical andphysiological demands of water polo. Furtherquantification of the game’s demands in differentathletes, and the effects of water polo training, arerequired to better establish the relative importanceof the identified physiological characteristics toperformance. The establishment of valid and reli-able tests for the monitoring and assessment of thephysiological attributes of water polo players, aswell as the determination of physiological data forelite female athletes and developing players ofeither gender, are also needed.
