INTRODUCTION
Teaching foreign languages in Uzbekistan has become very important since the first days of the Independence of our country, which pays much attention to the rising of education level of people, their intellectual growth. As our first President I. A. Karimov said: “Today it’s difficult to revalue the importance of knowing foreign languages for our country as our people see their great prosperous future in the cooperation with foreign partners.”
This course paper is dedicated to the classification of vowels according to vertical and horizontal movement of tongue which is one of the most interesting, disputable and important problems of theoretical phonetics of modern English. The study of vowel phonemes has always been one of the actual problems in general phonetics.
The subject matter of this course paper generally relates to phonetics and the practical analysis of a words and exercises
The aim of this course paper is present some detailed theoretical information about the classification of vowels according to vertical and horizontal movement of tongue, their similarities and differences, scientists who contributed on the sphere of this theme, to improve the knowledge of phonological units, to teach using and analyzing some words in different exercises without difficulties. Furthermore, this course project defines the assessment of obtaining useful data and acquisition by analyzing phonetic and phonological statements of words.
The aim of the research work puts forward tasks to fulfill such as:

  • to define main phonetic and phonological terms and concepts;

  • to study the main features of vowels according to vertical and horizontal movement;

  • to analyze the process of vowels in English;

  • to investigate the specific peculiarities of vowels in context;

  • to learn different techniques of teaching vowels and consonants.

The main language material of the given course paper is taken from different books on theoretical and practical phonetics as such English Phonetics.

The theoretical value of the present course paper is that the theoretical part of the work can be used in delivering lectures on the Theoretical Phonetics of Modern English.
The practical significance of the present course paper is that the practical results gained by investigating the given problem may be used as examples or mini-tests in seminars and practical lessons on English phonetics.
The contents of this course paper includes following issues: introduction, two chapters, conclusion, reference list and appendix
Introduction provides with brief information about whole course paper and includes the problems that are going to research and discuss in the project. Moreover, this course paper points out the aim of this research, tasks of the work, scientific novelty, theoretical value, practical value and other peculiarities and features of the course paper.
The chapter 1 focuses on the general information about the topic we are given, and their usage in Theoretical Phonetics.
The chapter 2 is mostly focused on the set of activities’ analysis are organized on phonetic criteria on the basis of the examples from the literary work.
In the conclusion, the results of our research carried out on a given topic are summed up and conclusions are formulated.
The reference list presents the names of authors and their theoretical issues and books, which were used for writing this research work.
