cartoon- an animation. E.g. Children like watching cartoons.

adverts / advertisements- something that tries to persuade people to buy something. E.g. The advertisement will appear in three magazines.

reporter- people who go out and get the news stories where they happen. E.g. He began his career as a newspaper reporter

forest fire- a fire burning in an area of land with many trees. E.g. Forest fires have been burning for over a week here.

earthquakes- when the earth moves. E.g. In 1906 an earthquake destroyed much of San Francisco.

flood- water goes over the river banks. E.g. After the flood it took weeks for the water level to go down.

crowded- it is full of people. E.g. By ten o'clock the bar was crowded.

poor- having little money. e.g. He was one of thirteen children from a poor family.

homeless- they do not have a place to live. E.g. Father took her when she was homeless after losing her own father.

pollution- when the air, water or earth is dirty and bad for people, plants and animals. e.g. The tests showed high levels of pollution in the water.

war- fighting between two or more countries or nationalities. E.g. The American War of Independence started in 1775 and ended in 1783.

On strike- when people refuse to work because, for example, they want more money. E.g. The teachers are on strike today.

Car crash- an accident in which a car hits something. E.g. He was killed in a car crash

Traffic jam- a line or very slow-moving traffic. E.g. The snow caused traffic jams all over the city.
