VOCABULARY 1
Relative- a person connected by blood or marriage.
e.g. All my relatives gather every year for a family reunion.
Relation - the way in which two or more people or things are connected. e.g. On our trip, we visited friends and relations on both sides of the family.
Granddaughter - a daughter of one's son or daughter. e.g. Her granddaughter lives abroad.
Grandson - the son of one's son or daughter. e.g. She has a 10 -year-old grandson.
Uncle - the brother of one's father or mother or the husband of one's aunt. e.g. My aunt and uncle moved to Arizona when they retired.
Aunt - the sister of one's father or mother or the wife of one's uncle. e.g. I have an aunt in Australia
Niece - a daughter of one's brother or sister. e.g. She pretended she was his niece.
Nephew - a son of one's brother or sister. e.g. He was a nephew of my friend.
An only child - a person who has no brother or sister. E.g. Jenny has no brothers or sisters, she's an only child. e.g. I was an only child from a small family
Weigh- find out how heavy (someone or something) is. E.g. Weigh yourself on the day you begin the diet
To call after- to give a baby the same name as someone else, especially a member of your family. E.g. She was called after her grandmother.
To be born- existing as a result of birth. E.g. She was born in Aberdeen
Single- unmarried. E.g. He's been single for so long now, I don't think he'll ever marry.
Married- united in marriage. E.g. We've been happily married for five years.
Widowed-become a widow or widower; lose one's spouse through death. E.g. He was recently widowed
