e.g. We sometimes have friends round. I often have friends to dinner.
Come to stay- sleeps in my house / flat
e.g. My best friend comes to stay sometimes.
Have a shower- to wash yourself. E.g. I think I'll have a shower before dinner.
Phone ( call) a friend- contact someone by phone. E.g. He phoned her at work
Listen to the radio- e.g. We didn't listen to the radio or music much.
Go to work- to begin working on someone or something. E.g. Come on! Let's go to work!
Make dinner-e.g. But I'm certain she'll be back by the time I make dinner
Go to bed-e.g. She usually goes to bed around 11:00.
Go for a walk- to walk for pleasure rather than for practical reasons. E.g. Let's go for a walk before it gets too hot.
And- We use and to give extra information in the second part of the sentence. E.g. Kate is a student and she works part-time.
But- We use but when the second part of the sentence contrasts with the first part. E.g. They are rich but they aren’t happy.
Or- We use or when the second part of the sentence gives a different possibility. E.g. You can pay by credit card or cash.
Because- We use because when the second part of the sentence explains why the first part happened. E.g. We went home early because we were tired.
So- We use so when the second part of the sentence gives a result of the first part. E.g. I felt ill so I didn’t go to work.
When- We use when to say when the first part of the sentence happened. E.g. I went to the party when the babysitter arrived.
