The nation state in Southeast Asia, a five-day research
meeting of the Australia-Japan Southeast Asia Research

and Dr KUMAR, funded by the Australian Research
Council and the Japan Society for the Promotion of
Science.
An ARC-funded project on Vietnamese business cul-
ture by Professor MILNER and Dr LOCKHART with
the St James Ethics Centre, Sydney, and the Vietnamese
Ministry of Culture.
The National Thai Studies Centre is prominent in the
Faculty's cooperation with other institutions in Austral-
ia. In 2000 it cooperated with the University of
Melbourne in holding a Thai Update; it also established
an agreement with the Department of Defence to hold
a Thai Update in 2001 focussed on security issues.
