cultural trauMa in tHe Post-soviet society
The content of the article – study of the phenomenon of cultural trauma experienced by the post-Soviet society.
Consequences of cultural trauma affect the way of life of Russians in many aspects. This article is based on an
analysis of research on the sources of cultural trauma and interpretation of biographical interviews with the
author in the period from 2012 to 2014. Informants are the representatives of the Soviet (born 1950-60) and
post- (1987–1993 born) generations. Based on the research, the author believes that as a result of cultural trauma
in post-Soviet culture took a symbolic gap between the practice and their meanings. In Russian society actualized
cultural memory of the «Soviet», present a nostalgic mood, broadcast myths about «the bright Soviet past.» Such
processes are reflected in the value-rational practices of different generations.
