Research Motivation 
In the past eight years, I have chanced to work at a Taiwanese company in 
which the factory set up in the Middle of Vietnam. During two and a half years 
working at that company, I was witnessed several the conflicts of workers and 
management department of company that result in strikes activities occur frequently. 
To deal with the strikes activities, the company’s managers launched out a number
of 
approaches to 
calm down workers’ indignant as well as make a promise of 
compensation. At the time, I felt confusing about what is the reason bring about 
worker’s annoyed over, while company makes efforts to satisfy their expectation. As a 
member of company as well as a Vietnamese, I observed that the situation is not only 
happen to my company, but also majority Taiwan-based companies in Vietnam face to 
the difficulty of HRM in host country, whether they offer the management strategies 



suitable to Vietnamese culture, systems and environment. Therefore, I am curious that 
the essence of HRM issues of Taiwanese companies in Vietnam, thereby to figure out 
the preferable strategies that can overcome the difficulty in HRM.

Research Purpose 
The purpose of this study to clarify the matters of HRM of Taiwan-based 
enterprises in Vietnam through by inquiring about Vietnamese culture, stage of 
economic development, in addition, through the in-depth interview with Taiwanese 
expatriate in Vietnam who are working in Vietnam or have working experiment in 
Vietnam in before to understand the original HRM issues that Taiwanese companies 
face with. From the fact of matters as well as linking the reliable theories to find out the 
solutions and HRM strategies that adapt to Vietnamese culture, government policy, 
working environment, 
and labors’ 
market as well. In short, the purpose of this research 
can be dividing in two main parts that are (1) HRM issues of Taiwan-based companies 
in Vietnam and (2) HRM strategies of Taiwan-based enterprises in Vietnam.
