TUKAN 8k
The first start of the program
1.1.6
After the installation program completes you can start the program by clicking the
icon placed on the Windows desktop or by running the command from the "Start"
Windows menu.
If the installation procedure fails, the program will not start and the following
message will be displayed on a screen:
After starting the program for the first time, the most important activity the user
should do is detection of analyzer devices after clicking on "Analyzer type" result
field or by selecting the following command:
menu:  Measurement | Analyzer type selection...
Status of controls available in this dialog box depends on a type of device
actually selected in "Analyzer type" field.
If "Tukan8kUSB" is selected then "Serial number" filed and accompanying
"Detect" button are available only.  "Detect" button allows to detect device of
selected type by the program. When selected, a dialog box containing a list of
devices of selected type appears on a screen.

Tukan-8k Analyzer
Only those devices which are not assigned to any acquisition paths are present
in the list. If the list is empty, the following message is displayed: "No devices of
selected type". Assigning analyzer to acquisition path is performed after
highlighting it in the list and pressing "OK" button.
1.2
Tukan-8k-PCI
The TUKAN_8k_PCI card is produced in two versions: basic - operating as
multi-channel pulse height analyzer running in a pulse height analysis (MCA)
mode and enhanced version where the card can additionally operate in
multi-channel scaling (MCS) mode. In the next release of the device both
operational modes (MCA and MCS) will be available as a basic set.
Specifications:
MCA - Multichannel Analyzer mode
MCS - Multichannel Scaling mode

I/O Connections and LED Indicators
1.2.1
The interface of the analyzer is located on mounting bracket and is shown on
figure below.  It consists of three types of connectors: BNC type, Lemo and
Canon 9-pin. Rules of  particular connectors depend on mode of running (MCA
or MCS) of the analyzer and are described in chapters describing both modes.
The analyzer is equipped with additional two LEDs mounted directly to the
board. One should light permanently indicating that the device is properly
initialized and is ready to use. The second LED, when blinking, indicates that
acquisition is running.

MCA - Multichannel Analyzer mode
1.2.2
MCA – base mode of running for the analyzer card.
Principle of operation can be discussed as follows: input analog signal (pulse) is
converted to digital value proportional to its height and normalized to a number of
channels and maximum pulse height value, which is 10V; such a value defines
the address of a unique channel in histogram memory, which is incremented by
one.

Controls
ADC LLD and ULD  Computer controlled independent thresholds (lower and
upper level) both covering full amplitude range with 12 bit accuracy
CONTROLLING  Fully controlled by host computer via PCI Interface compliant
with PCI Local Bus Specification, Revision 2.2 Up to 8 PMCA-8K boards can be
plugged in single PC frame
Inputs
ANALOG INPUT  Accepts positive unipolar or bipolar semigaussian type pulses
of shaping time constants >= 100 ns. DC Coupled. The dynamic range is 10mV
to +10 V. BNC connector.
GATE  Active HIGH TTL compatible logic gate. Computer controlled
Gating/Nongating and Coincidence/Anti-coincidence mode. Active state of this
signal (HIGH for coincidence and LOW for anticoincidence) must occur prior to
and extend 200 ns beyond the peak of analog pulse. LEMO connector.
